Jeep replacement seats

Does anyone know what is a good fit or switch for a 97 tj seat would be. I heard that a chevy caviler works well. Any input?

idk about a jeep but cavi seats look and are great in a s10 pickup. lol i had them and had the head rests chopped and they looked pretty custom. But i think any seat will work as long as you use the same jeep seat track right?

the way i see after market seats being put in a jeep is they use the stock sliders and brackets since they fold over and just unbolt the seat from the bracket and put the new seat on top of that.

so does that mean that any seat will work you just have to take the stock brackets off the existing seat and find a way to mount it on the new seat??

Probably cheaper to order replacement seats from Qtech or 4WD. Some of them only run about $150. It's easy to go over that at an upholstery shop.

NOOOOOOOOOO! I was quoted the same for recovering my old frames as a new set of Bestop Trailmax Pro's. Driver's side had an issue that I was still going to have to deal with if I used my old ones.

That must be some of that there "new math". I'm thinking that 150 x 2 = 300. But what do I know...

I have Bestop Trailmax Pros and I can't recommend them. If you go fabric, it stains way too easily and it's a PITA to adjust the seatback angle with the knob on the side. Once installed, you'd really miss the seatback angle lever on the OE seats and most other aftermarket seats. Bestop told me their lawyer said a lever to set the seatback angle would present too much of a potential liability problem so they went with a PITA knob instead.

I think it has free shipping however jc tends to like to add taxes and stuff like that

I ordered a rough country lift kit for 520 and it ended up being 56x.

Taxes? Taxes? We don' need no steenkin' taxes.

They better not add any taxes on any of my orders. We live free (or die) up here.

BTW $160 for a pair of those seats looks very good. Too bad they don't have the stock type recline levers.

TJ_Bleu, since you keep the stock brackets that fold, you can fold the seat forward however from the way i understand it, it doesnt fold completely because the stock seat folds where the seating part is AND the backrest together plus the bracket that holds it to the floor while the aftermarket seats reuse the bracket that holds it bolted to the floor however many do not have a button to fold at the seat and the backrest.

Yeah, exactly. The way mine work (and my '98 was the same) when you pull the loop and fold the seat forward, there is a cable that actuates a special lever underneath the seat base that slides the seat forward and releases the catch that allows the seat base to tumble forward toward the dash. The nice thing about all that is it allows easier access in and out of the back seat area.

When I picked up my '99 the cable had come out of the slot so the "tumble forward" didn't tumble. It made it very difficult to get out of the back seat area. I doubt the PO knew all he needed to do was put the cable back in place.

Of course if you never use the back or don't have a rear seat it's all moot.

No it will now however you pull a lever right under the seat and it pulls forward. I guess it shouldn't be hard to make a lever somewhere next to it.

True, you could fashion some kind of a lever to actuate the tumble and slide forward using that same cable. But, as you already noted, the seat back wouldn't fold forward as part of the deal (without cranking on the rotary knob) so the access wouldn't be quite as good or convenient.
