I have a 99 sahara. Has a 2 inch bds lift with 2 inch body lift. My front axle appears to be shifted to the passanger side. Any ideas what could cause this and how to fix this?
You mentioned BDS lift, but not sure if that means all components, etc, so I'm thinking all components are suspect until we know for sure.
You could actually still have an adjustable track bar, but it just isn't long enough. If your track bar has no threaded ends with lock nuts somewhere in the middle but rather just a straight piece of steel all the way across, then it's fixed. If it looks like it has adjustable threads on one end, then you have an adjustable track bar.
Or...you can have the stock track bar with an extension bracket. Just don't know until we can see it, or you can definitively describe the components.
The stock track bar is a fixed length and connects the body of the jeep to the axle. When you lift a jeep and don't extend the track bar, the body of the jeep pushes out to the passenger side.
Study the pic. Imagine pushing up on the driver-side of the track bar where it is attached to the body. The body will certainly go up, but the fixed length of the track bar will cause it to not rise STRAIGHT up, but in an ARC angle, pushing the body to the passenger side.
I just has bds springs and shocks. Everything elses is stock. I just replaced upper and lower ball joints and steering nuckle u joints. Did the springs and shocks also. It used to have a 4 inch suspension lift when i bought it. Trac bar is fixed. When i lowered it back down after changing what i listed i noticed the front tire on passanger side was sticking out past the bumper and not on the driverside. I have not drove it yet.
Lowering it from 4 inches to 2 inches would push the axle out the passenger side. If you do not have an adjustable front track bar then the track bar is longer than stock or the bracket was changed. I would suggest you install an adjustable track bar suited for a 2 inch lift and put the bracket back to stock if it has been moved.
I put new wheel bearings on to. I notice som play in the trac bar bushing on the axle . I will put new bushing in the trac bar. Before i changed all these parts on the front end it drove really scarry. Death wobble like crazy . So i parked it. And started replaceing all the front end parts. Next i will do trac bar and upper control arm bushings. Hopefully this will make it driveible again.
Sounds you are taking a real good, methodical approach to this. You're on the right track. A little slop in those bushings can be elusive to find, but it matters.
Keep at it, and let us know how it goes and how it drives afterwards.
The one that has been recommended to me a bunch of times is the metalcloak one. Wait for someone else to respond and confirm that it will work for you because I don't know much about trackbars. This post is 50% recommendation and 50% bump.
