Dude where abouts are you? Where do you go trail riding? I know of Bridgeport but haven't been there yet. Got any suggestions?

I know how you feel. I used to have a Harlequin great Dane, but he died suddenly on the operating table shortly after I got my Jeep. Never had the chance for him to be my co-pilot.

I go to Kansas State University and I see a lot of fellow TJ owners. I ALWAYS get a wave from them, and I always wave back. Occasionally there are a couple that don't -- and they are always lady drivers. The JK's, however.... I don't know what their deal is. Granted, many of them are rich suburban moms.
I've also heard about the Jeep hierarchy. Personally, I haven't got too much into that aspect of it. I will ALWAYS wave first at older jeeps and those that have the top down in some manner if I do not, but most of my waves have happened simultaneously with the the other jeep.

Some wave first though....

Wow. Hey, if you want to drop $30,000 on a JK and take it out and ride it like it's a $2,000 Jeep, more power to you. But who's this guy to cast judgement on people who don't want to drop $30,000 on a vehicle that they are going smash to hell anyway. I have no beef with JK owners that drive their Jeeps like Jeeps, it's the ones who wash it, wax it, and has not seen one rock or mud hole. That's just my opinion.

What's wrong with washing and waxing? I like to clean my jeep at least once a month, but that doesnt mean I don't offroad it. But yeah I know what you mean. I've got friends with JKs who offroad them. No problem with them at all (I actually have a tough time keeping up with them lol). It's the soccer moms and others who just buy it because they think it will be a suburban who ruin it.

Thats my category, and maybe it's why I don't get waves? Do people assume that since I'm a female I don't know the wave? I am all about the wave guys!

I'm in Allen, it's south of McKinney, and sadly I have never been trail riding. I don't personally know any Jeepers, and I'm new to the area so I feel kinda lonely about the situation haha. It's always just me and my Jeep and we are unaware of places to ride.

I think you misunderstood my comment. When I said wash and wax, I meant that they're more interested in washing and waxing it then using it to it's full capability. No offense implied by that comment. Afterall, I try to wash my Jeep one every 4-5 months or so, but have never waxed it. Cheers.

Im in Ontario and i find the same thing, 99 percent of females dont even comprehend that another jeep has gone past, and the 4 doors very rarely wave, i fugre the 4-wavers r guys who used to own a tj or yj and know whats going on and they just "upgraded"

Hey I'm in Ontario, I own a JKU, and I'll wave if I see you. Never owned a Jeep before either.

You are right, a lot of people upgraded from the TJ and I haven't seen any of them complain. I don't really understand the hate for the JK..

There's a long thread on another jeep forum about ex-TJers who upgraded to the JK or JKU and they all have nothing but good things to say. (not really sure if I'm allowed to hotlink to it?)

My biggest issue (besides those ugly stock fenders) is that they got rid of the 4.0 inline 6engine (this is a deal breaker for me). I'm sure the new engines are fine, but the 4.0 has proved itself to be an amazing and reliable engine. Mine has 145,000 and all I've done is change oil every 4k-5k miles. Runs like new. Other than that and the whole waving thing (which will just take some time) I've got no problem with them. If I had the money , I'd buy myself a jk rubicon 2dr, but until I hot the jackpot I'm happy with my 2000 tj sport.

My first car was a 1994 Chrysler New Yorker, it had the same V6 3.8L that the JK does. So don't let anyone tell you it's a minivan engine

I put it to over 160,000 with no engine trouble, although the PCM, and various electronics had problems, the 3.8 lasted me and I used to drive it like a beast (first car..bought used, obviously driven by a heavy footed teenager...) I was always impressed with it's ability to pull me through 3 foot snow banks. It was never fast off the line but it held up great for the abuse I put it through.

edit: I think the fenders look stupid too. But that's not even close to a deal breaker

Yeah I don't even remember why I even typed "deal breaker" because it really isn't. I have no doubt that Jeep wouldn't get rid of the 4.0 unless they had something better. But for now, while my jeep is paid off, I'll stick with the 4.0. Oh and I'm supposed to be studying for a biology test and it's 2:11am here in houston, so If I I'm typing dumb things, just disregard it back to the books!

I don't even bother to wave at the JK's anymore, the last JK i waved to gave me the finger! 90% of the time they don't wave back anyway.

I get the wave from CJs, YJs, and TJs. No JK has ever given me the wave, not even if I waved first. Hell, not even if my kids waved first. Noticed this when I had bikes, too. I'd wave at all of 'em. The sport bikers would all wave (I had a ZX6R), the metric bikers would all wave, but the Harleys? Forget it. Now I only wave at JKs if they wave first.

the night i bought my lj i was driving it home from the dealer and it was dark so as i was going up this street i see a jeep flash his fog lights at me. he must have seen the dealer plates and was welcoming me into the club. needless to say the whole ride home i had the most stupid grin on my face.
