Jeep wave etiquette

Another thread made me think of this...may have been another thread, even so....I think it should be addressed again. What is you Jeep wave procedure/rules?

I know/understand that each JeePer has their own rules n such...here are mine sort of anyway

Lowest seniority JeeP must wave first. Seniority by JeeP not driver.
Second JeePer must return wave...no lookin down on other jeeps.........

MJ
CJ
TJ
JK - YJ (I know...but the headlites are sqare, YJs are still family....just not so close)

XJ and others that are modified for offroading get consideration on a situation by situation basis.

Other military vehicles usually fall somewhere in the loops as well.
JeePs bein of equal age....least modified is youngest.

Just general guidelines....

PS. Must shun Hummers, unless drivers are related to you............nah...Must shun Hummers

I wave from the steering wheel when I think they can see it. I will wave from outside the window if the right hand is steering and not busy shifting. But since shifting is the life with a 4 banger that is not often.

with the exception of the JK, I wave equally to all. Why Discriminate based on age or headlight style?

But of course, I will Discriminate against fake 4x4's such as Hummers and JK's.

Lastly, the women in my area just dont get it, and therefore, i never bother to wave at anything if a woman is driving. Nothing against women, they just dont get the Wave.

Why are you bashing the JK's? I have both a 4 door JK and a TJ and the JK will crawl through the woods.

Hey don't knock the JK's. I want to see your Jeep do this

And he went up it another 3 feet after I took the picture

I get waves all the time in my wrangler and I give wave all the time in the Cherokee and Wrangler, but I only get return waves in the Cherokee if I'm towing the wrangler behind it

I'm a woman and I wave, but I do seem to be the only one. That said I wave at all Wranglers. And even in one of the friendliest states in the country I get a
1 in 10 return ratio. But I wave anyway. I've been waving long enough now that a few Jeeps I pass everyday have started waving back. But if a JK ever waves back I'll probably wreck.

I wave unless I am distracted. You know...it is really hard to drive a stick shift while changing the CD player and Texting someone! LOL

In all seriousness, If I see someone quick enough I wave.

You contradicted yourself.

When driving down the road - How in the heck do you have the time to look at someone elses rig and determine at a glance that yours is "better" than his/hers?

Here's the deal.
If it has seven slots in the grille, wave at the darn Jeep.

Take the "rules" and "my Jeep is better, so you have to wave first" nonsense and toss them out the window. It's ridiculous. School yard nonsense.

From looking at your profile, looks like you have Just started modding your Jeep. So if I follow the above rules, I should wait before I wave to you or not bother to wave at all. Why waste my time waving first, because your Jeep isn't as built as mine?

But, what if I REALLY want to just wave at the Jeep because I don't care if it's modded or not?

This means, I have to watch like a hawk to see if you're going to wave first, so I don't miss it if you do while we are zipping past each other for roughly - oh... I dunno... three seconds.

Just hang your dang arm out the window, flap your hand around a little bit and don't sweat it!

It's a WAVE, not a rule book.

(note to self, stop reading these stupid wave threads, they only make me grumpy)

if there actually was a trail behind there, and no bushes and trees I would have tried to actually make it over.

I will be the first to admit that I don't wave at all Jeeps.

I generally do not wave at anything that has four doors and is not in any obvious way modified - like the newer Unlimited or the JK's. Most people who drive them around here are people who drive them like most Hummer drivers drive their Hummers - to the car wash, to the grocery store, to soccer practice. Their idea of "off road" is to drive on gravel.

Also, statistically speaking, the only people in 4-door Jeeps that have ever initiated the Jeep wave have been people whose vehicles were obviously modified or covered in dirt. If they wave, I wave back. But most of the folks up here who drive them don't wave, anyway.

I do wave at any other Jeeps, though ... CJ, TJ, LJ ... and other off-roaders if they initiate a wave.

AbbyK9, why is it you don't wave at an unlimited, but do wave at an LJ ?

LJ IS an unlimited, and I resent being put in the category of JK , Hummmmer, and mall crawler.

I wave at every Jeep, I usually only get 1 out 20 return waves. ( It really chaps my wife's hiney )

Wow, lots of prejudice against the female JK drivers here. Not all of us JK drivers are completely clueless. I've been offroading since I was strapped into a car seat in my moms old jacked up bronco. Granted I'm being nice to my new baby until I have a second vehicle again that I can rely on for to and from work but I fully intend to mod up my JK for something a little better than just splashing through puddles.

Heck she's a jeep, she looks better with a nice thick coating of mud inside and out.

We shouldn't knock the mall cruiser and grocery getter ... these are the desirable used Jeeps that we get to build into our toys.

He who bashes JK has no clue what "he" is talking about.. I was at a Rally a couple of weeks ago and an JK "unlimited" X with a mild lift, 35s, and a rear locker made us all look like fools.. The unlimiteds can climb insane angles, but their only drawback is that they are a little wider which makes navigating tight trails a little more difficult. I feel that with the suspension alone, they JK is a superior Jeep to the TJ.. I own both and love each of them for many different reasons. I was toying with the idea of selling TJ to build JK, but I love TJ too much to do that..

OH! Most "Modified" Jeeps will always throw a wave.. I wave at all Wranglers and CJs and not the person; the Jeep!!

The day I have to have a guideline for what type of Jeep to wave at is the day I sell mine. I could care less who drives what, or who waves at who. Honestly the 'wave' regulation is almost a turn off to owning a Jeep.

Just joined.

Passed a TJ the other day with a larger decal along the windshield which read, "Wave Damn-it... It's a Jeep Thing" Love that decal - just can't seem to find it. Has anybody seen it online?

Haven't had a waving issue here in Mass but up in New Hampshire has been a different experience as NOBODY seems to wave. (no we're not in a Liberty)

These kind of threads really chaffe my backside. So, since I have a "corporate" job and wear a suit, and bought a 4 dr so that my entire family (3 kids) could all enjoy offroading together, that makes my jeep less of a jeep then your jeep?? Come on, that's crap. It's a Jeep people! I will continue to wave at all even though I am shunned by many.

We as Jeepers...should be down to earth like our Jeeps! No snobbery here....its just not Jeep like. Maybe those who are "classing" our jeeps should drive an X5 offroad...then the image would fit the vehicle. Wave at all of em regardless! Eventually it'll catch on! (:

3.Never said anything derogatory bout Jks...(best friend drives one) and yes I do kid him about it...if ya cant take a joke....well u know how that goes
4.Never said anything derogatory bout female JeeP drivers....why should I ...my wife is one and dont know bout youall....but I dont like sleepin on the couch all that much.

Oh ya...someone mentioned that I had just started modifing my JeeP...not exactly true.
It isnt as extreme as many, a bit more so than some. But it is the way I want it. I dont look down my nose at stockers or those who just throw money at their ride. Do with it what you will, if you had read my lil "rules" I gave props to those that had done more than me. So all in all..........what I was saying that I was givin a nod to those who drive older JeePs (way cool) and those who have made the hard-core (way cool also).
I only shun Hummers.............and now JeeP snobs
