Talking Jenny build... Jenny's her name Jeepin's the game

Hey folks...
Well, I've been lurking around for a bit... I made the mistake of telling my gf i wanted a jeep for my next car because it would be fun to drive in the summer and a necessity in the winter with the snow... I thought I would get a year or two to find the perfect Jeep Wrangler either new or used so I started shopping around... Not with this girlfriend of mine... She looked for me and found a friend who said he would never sell his jeep finally said yeah I'll sell and for bluebook price!!! Well I guess the decision was made for me..
In any case I've been working on her 'Jenny' for about a month now and my friend has said he would buy it back and he never should have sold it after I put in a bit of work on her... here are some pics of her when I got her:

1997 Jeep Wrangler Sport w/ new besttop soft top and half doors
140000 miles on a 6 cylinder and manual trans...

First thing I did was cleaned her up and then did a black treatment on the fenders using forever black... came out good but left a pin-stripe on the body... no biggie...

Next rhino-lined the interior with hercu-liner:

Then a stereo upgrade... I know I know not very Jeep like but hey... I like to rock out while going over rocks..

Went with a pioneer deh-2200ub cd/mp3/usb player...

And a sound bar...
still need to take pic of that... it was the cheapest one i could find...

And ofcourse upgraded the front speakers to 6.5 inch coaxial polk db651
... these were a good brand and were also marine certified...
putting them in was a different story... I had to modify the speaker compartments... hey nothing a hack saw and bending wouldn't cure... that and about 1 hr. of work and fitting... ehhh don't recommend it but I definitely hear a big difference!!!

Ok and most recently a friend of mine wanted to trade center consoles... why you ask?? because his almost new -slightly used- $400 dollar Tuffy security center console w/ stereo locking and subwoofer compartment didn't fit when he installed new wider seats... hahaha lol... so we traded my crappy faded grey stock factory console for his Tuffy security console...

If fit like a glove... down sides are: I now have no cup holders and now I am thinking I need to move the stereo down into the lockable security console...
maybe next week ... I think...

oh and I tossed out the faded seat covers for new ones seen in the previous post...

before:

And as the final touch to make this jeep my own... and probably piss off my friend that sold me the jeep ...

The final touch...

a skull shifter... Yeah baby...

Let me know what you guys think so far... Sorry for all the posts at once... I just couldn't wait to work on her and sometimes forgot to take pics and post ... oh wells...

Just curious but that forever black got your fenders looking like that again? How long has it been on for now and are they still that black? I was about to take mine of a repaint them since they look just as grey as your first post. But if this stuff works that well it would save me a days worth of labor lol. Nice jeep by the way and congrats! After i lifted mine i pulled up at a stoplight next to the girl's dad who sold me it, he offered my $2000 more than what i paid for it back lol, but no way jose did too much work to it to sell it back haha.

yeah it worked great... just need multiple coats to get a good finish...
Amazon.com: Forever Black Bumper & Trim Dye Kit: Automotive
10 bucks and an afternoon of work makes a big difference... I still need to do the milk jugs ... for that complete look... I would tape off the body if you care about your paint job.. it will wipe off but you gotta be quick... The product says it will last for 50 washes.. so far i've done 2 .. we'll see... laterz

Is that the mystery color that sometimes looks blue and sometimes purple ? Nice color. And keep the grizzly rims, just get a more aggressive tire like 235/75/15 BFG a/t's.
A Sport 5 speed. Perfect. That thing will go anywhere just like it is.

Did you have to remove the duct work to get the speakers to fit?

2dmud - what question? I didn't have to remove the duct work but I did have to saw off the rusted metal piece seen in the pic... and then the speakers barely fit.. the driver's side fit better than the passenger side because of the glove box there is a slight bulge on the passenger's side speaker panel... ehhh... it fit barely...

pokey - yeah it's a nice factory blue but it's got plenty of 'Arizona pin stripping' oh well... maybe later I'll paint but for now who cares... It's riding on 30s right now... I like the height and I do agree it does seem to be able to go anywhere I point it... All still stock!

How did you get those speakers to fit in the front? I would like to do the same to mine because the small panasonic speakers I have in there now just arent doing it for me. Also where did you find a soundbar for your jeep? I've been looking for one of those as well.

But hey, your jeep is lookin' good. I repainted my fenders as well but I used rustoleum bedliner and it looks really sharp and gives it a nice slightly rugged look.

The front speakers were custom fitted... meaning I had to chop out a metal piece from under the dash... that vertical rusty metal piece seen in the pic...
I had to cut that piece out and installed these speakers...

Amazon.com: Polk Audio DB651 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speakers (Pair, Silver): Electronics

If I had to do it again I would go slightly smaller maybe 5 inch and not 6.5 inch... but these are sounding great and are marine grade...

Also went with this soundbar... cheapest I could find... figured if the speakers go out I can just replace them with better ones ... ie the polks found above...

Amazon.com: 6spk Soundbar Jeep Wrangler Cj Tj Yj Sound Bar grey: Electronics

And finally the stereo was this one... it has an ipod/aux jack and I usually just run a 1gb memory stick with music I want to listen to... keeps the cd from skipping while going over bumps ...

Amazon.com: Pioneer DEH-2200UB CD Receiver with iPod Direct Control and USB Input: Electronics

I think everything was about $350 or so... they should last me a long while..

Yes.. But they are worthless.

I put in a set of 4 inch components in there with couch foam stuffed all around to focus the sound forward and but not lose it in the dash. Sounds good

two questions: why didnt you just buy 4x6 speakers and avoid all the work. i realize its up to you but half the speaker is behind the dash. i would think the shoehorned speaker is losing a lot of potential sound quality stuffed in there.
do you have any other pics of the floor lining? just curious cause the one pic is blurred so cant really tell anything but the other gives the appearance of a puddle of stuff in the back. im curious the consistency of it, was it thick or clumpy or ?
i still havent decided which brand to use.

Stuff foam around the speaker because there is no room for a baffle u will get alot better sound especially mid range like u would want from a 6.5.

That's a good idea I did not know it was even possible to stuff a 6.5 in there
