JK and the wave

One of my employees is in the market for JK for his wife. I pulled him aside for a little 'coaching' yesterday and we discussed the 'wave' and its importance. I also made sure he knew that JKs are typically driven by suburban moms and if he were to purchase one, his wife must learn (from an early age) to wave. This is not an option.

He understood quite clearly. He smiled and brought up that he just took it for a test drive and when he parked it in a Target parking lot, another JK driver told him the same thing (about the wave).

Did I do a bad thing by coaching him - of should I have recommended that he not purchase a JK? They were buying either a JK or some other boring SUV.

Thanks for your advice!

So many JKs have such dark tinting that it's hard to detect a wave from them. I wave anyway. My son is 15 and he was driving us around in my TJ with his new driving permit and recieved his first Jeep wave. He was proud and so was I.

Wait...does this mean I'm supposed to acknowledge JK's now?

I kid, I kid. I wave at them all. Even if I know it's a soccer mom. Just having trouble getting the return Thanks for helping us all out getting the new guys on board!

I wave at all wranglers, some look back like I have 3 eyes. Since I do it's not uncommon to get stares. LOL

JK drivers ( where I live at least) are very conscientious drivers, always staring straight ahead with their eyes on the road. Waves? never.

Nice!!!
I took a 4 hour round trip in the jeep today to pick up another hard top(long story) and I only saw 2 jeeps, both JKs and neither waved back then later today we go out in my wifes G6 and we must have seen 10 jeeps in a matter of 30 minutes. I had to stop myself from waving because its just become a natural reaction.

Remember you are waving at the Jeep and not the person.

While I'm not a fan of the JK, I still give the owners the same respect as all other Jeep owners...they bring the bashing on themselves though, while a minority DO know and understand the Jeep wave, most don't (and are too stupid to take a hint from all the Jeeps waving at them when they drive past).

...and how do stereotypes begin???

When a new generation comes out, I do think we'll see the JK bashing decrease. Simply because soccer mom's don't drive old used vehicles...those JK's will be picked up more and more by fellow Jeepers just upgrading to something a little newer and the soccer moms who don't wave will trade their JK's in for one of the new generation Jeeps.

My $.02...

I get about 10% of the JKs I pass waving back around here. If my kids are in the TJ with me, they ask "Did they wave?" Usually the answer is "No."

Hrm....I rarely see a JK driver wave back. The ones that wave probably had a CJ or TJ at sometime! LOL

Well, he bought his new JK and loves it. I feel some sense of success because he told me that his wife and daughter took a 4 hour (needless) tour around the town just to wave at all the jeeps. Apparently his daughter was hanging out the window waving. He said they had a blast and feel like they are part of a 'club'. LOL
