Talking Just bought a 97 TJ

Hey everyone, I am new to the forums and just wanted to say hello to all the fellow TJ's out there

I also want to know what exactly is on my Jeep, as the dealership I bought it from has no clue. I got the Jeep at what I thought was a deal: $5200

Miles: 84,348

As far as I know, the lift is 4 inches, it looks to be a "ProComp" lift a shop has told me, the control arms say "Chromally" or something like that. The shocks were "ProComp" before I replaced them with a set of 4 "BDS" shocks. A friend said that BDS is a good company? No idea..

I had to replace the Tracbar, the old one was welded together where the adjuster was. The brand I bought I am not too certain on. "TeraFlex" Adjustable Tracbar. It was the cheapest I could find, is $190 cheap?

It has this box plugged into the computer that says "Jet Power Control Module". I have no idea what it is.

It also has 3 dip switches in the cab that say ARB on the lights, Rear, front, and compressor. When I turn the compressor on, the ARB compressor under the hood turns on. If I leave that on and flip the other 2 switches, I hear air going into something. I haven't driven with those switches turned on as I heard that ARB is a locker for the wheels or something?

The wheels are 33's on aluminum alloy wheels. I am not too sure if they are good for off roading.

I had to replace the front Ring and Pinion gears (I was stupid and broke the front axle housing, so the whole thing was overhauled with a junkyard Dana 30 off of another TJ). The shop I took them too said they are 4.56. The brand they threw in are G2. They also had to drill a hole into the diff cover for the ARB?

Sorry If I sound naive about all of this, I am new to the world of Jeeps and off roading, even though I have wanted a Jeep since childhood

I will get some pictures of everything, from under the hood, under the jeep and all around just to it is easier to see what I am talking about.

Thanks

They are ok shocks.

Meh, I don't personally care for them. But $200 is about right for average/cheaper ones.

It has this box plugged into the computer that says "Jet Power Control Module". I have no idea what it is.

Money waisted by the original person who put it there. It is a "computer chip for more power"...but does basically nothing to the TJ

AWESOME...you have front and rear ARB air lockers. Read up on them and when to use them. DO NOT DRIVE DOWN THE ROAD WITH THEM LOCKED.

The wheels are 33's on aluminum alloy wheels. I am not too sure if they are good for off roading.

They are fine...I've wheeled with aluminum wheel for more than a decade. I like rocks too.

I had to replace the front Ring and Pinion gears (I was stupid and broke the front axle housing, so the whole thing was overhauled with a junkyard Dana 30 off of another TJ). The shop I took them too said they are 4.56. The brand they threw in are G2.

I really hope they put the airlocker and lines back in/on it.

Sorry If I sound naive about all of this, I am new to the world of Jeeps and off roading, even though I have wanted a Jeep since childhood

I'm looking forward to the pictures. If it has all the goodies you described, you got an outrageous buy. Does it have the 4.0L I6? What transmission?

Welcome.

Sounds like you are ready to roll.

ARB lockers are great. 4.56 gears work great with the 4.0 and the manual tranny.

Have fun.

97 TJ's rock.

I watched them take the old stuff out of the old axle and put it in the new axle with the new gears. The guy seemed surprised when he pulled the shiny silver canister thing out with a copper hose attached to it. Claiming that ARB's arent cheap and told me not to break it or something. He had to drill a hole into the diff cover for the blue hose that goes into a threaded fitting.

Xan, you just stabbed me in the heart. I figure a stock 97 Sport with 84k miles is worth $6500 around here. Those lockers you have in there are $800 a piece. The lift kit if its the short arm is about $850.

I forgot to add that it has this big thing on the front with a steel cable and rollers. It has a big W on it, 9500i? I think thats the model or something. In the center console of the Jeep was this cable remote thing that connects into it. Is this the winch?

That's a 1k winch right there. Why did they sell it so cheap? Was Henry Winkler part of the sale?

Hell for what you paid there is about that much in up grades and then some depending on what everything costs and with labor... Now please post some pics of your rig so everyone will stop asking.

And welcome the forum and life style of a jeep.

I'm new to Jeeps, only had my '97 TJ for a week and although mine doesn't have a winch, I would certainly be able to recognize one. I mean, seriously... One would also find it hard to believe that even a newb salesman wouldn't overlook the opportunity to highlight a $1000 piece of equipment.

I might have thought a good deal possible (I only paid $1800 for my TJ) until the additional "Is this the winch?" question.

They lost me with that one.

HAHAHA, you guys are hilarious, come on. This was most certainly a joke from the beginning. No idea why this guy gets his jollys that way, but I have to say that it was funny seeing your reactions.

This reminds me of that CL post we all see all the time: "2006 RUBICON JEEP 4X4!!! 35" TIRES, WINCH!!! $4800..." you get the idea.

Here are the pictures. I am sorry for the late reply, work and school have me swamped sometimes

My new daily driver!

Here is the album link:

Photoshop.com | Album - My TJ

The carfax report on the car was all green, the damage on the vehicle looks to be light brushes with trees. The front bumper is my fault :P I personally don't care for chrome. So I will get it replaced as soon as I can find a good deal on one that is black

The chrome grill is coming off tonight after work

Its beat to hell but worth it. What I would get is flat fenders for the front...it would get rid of the damaged fenders and fender flares up front and give you extra clearance. Take a picture of the rear axle for us

Wow.. Just because I don't post immediately, people freak out and automatically assume that I am a scam or sham.

All I was doing was saying hello. I didn't know I would be attacked over my Jeep and the questions I had. I am literally Jeep illiterate, I have no idea what half the stuff on this beast is.

Well I posted the pictures, I hope that's enough to become a part of this community, because I don't want to go anywhere else..

Thanks
