Just bought an 04 need some info!

As the title suggest I just bought an 04 wrangler. It is currently running 31" 10.50 tires. I want to go with a RE 3.5 lift and run 33" 12.5's. This is my DD and will stay that way for awhile. I will do some minor trail riding but no major offroading other then some mud holes. Do you need to run a new gear ratio to run these or will the factory get the job done. I realize my gas is probably gonna go down the Sh*****. But other then that should I be fine do I need to get a yoke kit with this, any advice is welcome.

Also I see alot of people mention a BB lift what is this refering too? I have done some surfing here about tires best wearing set onroad/performance off but what about rims? What are the best looking/affordable opinions. What size rim should I go with? I was thinking 15's but should I go 8 or 10.5's?

Thanks I am still a noob to all this so bare with me!

congrats man welcome to the forum, nice rig

The stock ratios should take the 33s fine but obviously it will be slower. The gas will go down about 2-3 mpg but that depends mainly how you drive.

As the sye and cv goes (bandaid>) you can drop the transmission skid a little bit which should eliminate your drivetrain vibes that are caused by the lift.

The BB refers to budged boost lift. All this does is place plastic or whatever material spacers on top of your coils so you get some lift using the coils you have on there now.

For tires and rims.. you can run 12.5" wide tires on an 8" rim so you can get 33-12.5R15 for the tires and the rims are 15" dia and 8" wide.. i'd recomend ~4" or less for BS. (the smaller the # for bs the more the tires will stick out)

What engine and tranny do you have? 4 banger or 6? also 5 speed or auto?

Its a sport so i'd say 6.

I hope I answered your questions and didnt miss any.

Ripcord, nice looking jeep. Here are some answers to your questions.

If you go with a 3" suspension lift and 33" tires the current gearing will be fine if you have 3.73 gears. Do you have a 4 or 6 cyl engine?

The yoke kit is a good idea if it fits into your budget.

BB Lift is putting in coil spring spacers in combo with the stock springs. BB stands for Budget Boost.

Rims are all up to you, I have Ultra Baja Wheels that are 15X8 with 33X12.50 on them and love it. If you are not going to do major off road 15X8's will do you just fine. Here is a picture of my wheels.

Thanks for the info guys! I got a steel on the jeep with only 5k miles garage kept but not for long hehe. You both have good looking jeeps I can't wait til mine looks a little less pansy! It was owned by a female who only used it to pull some Sedoo's "Ghey"

It is a 6 cyl im thinking 4.0 but not sure. How can I tell what gear ratio my trans is. It's an auto btw.

Also I have a friend who has an 03 and he said he has the better gas milage motor. He seems to get alot better milage then me and has a bigger tank. Mine only holds around 10 gallons wtf is up with that?

Youv'e got a sport.. I6 was standard in those things.. 4.0 is I6 and 2.5 is I4... For the ratio you gotta go underneath your rig by the rear differential and ther should be a tag with bunch of numbers on it.. copy those numbers (all of them) It should say something like 3.07 or 3.73 or 4.11 or i think there was something like 3.55.. while you're down there look to see if the fill plug on that cover is black plastic or metal as that will be our next question.

Thanks I will have to get under there and check it out whats the plug type have to do with it other then the model of tranny?

There is no way my tank is 19g if it is there is def something wrong. I have ran it past the warning light several times and the most I have squezzed in there was maybe 12g. He said he can put around 19 in his but I usually can only get around 10g. We can't figure it out he has an 02 jeep and im not sure what the engine diff is if any. Im guessing I have a 15g tank is this possible?

Thanks again for the info!

Some jeeps use to have ~16 gal tanks but i thought they eliminated those back in the 99 models as it was still a 19 gallon tank but had a longer fuel pipe in it so it shut off the gas pump to the max of 16 gals and leave the rest of the tank empty, 3 gallons of just empty space. Anyhow when you fill up about 12gals, is your fuel arrow at full or is it in the middle somewhere? Try filling gas with the gas pump handle thingy only halfway in the jeep and see if that allows you to fill up more. Just make sure you keep an eye on it. Do not try to top off if the pump stops.

As the model of the transmission... the tranny is far away so dont even think of the tranny when you want to mess with your ratios because of bigger tires. There is a ratio on your differential and this is what people change as its cheaper then a custom gear ratio transmission.

The metal plug differential is the D44 which is stronger one. This is the one you're hoping to have. The plastic one is the D35 which is the weaker one so you gotta baby it with bigger tires. From memory the front differential (D30) is a metal plug also.

the 2.5L 4 bangers have a 15g tank. Maybe your gauge is off, and you're not using as much gas as you can before fill up

Yeah I tried all the tricks with the gas like pulling it out too see if I can get more in ect. The tank arrow is on full when I fill up and it gets arouns 170m on a tank. I dunno I guess I am just gonna have to run it slap out one day.

"Prays" for the D44

the regearing really depends on weather you have a 4 cyl oir a 6cyl, but either way you can ride on the 33's and then decide if you thinkit is bad enough to warrant the expense of gears
you wont need a new driveshaft and things for that amount of lift
a BB is when you place a spacer on top of the coils to lif tit up without buying any new componenets, a real lift is waayyy better!
the best tires for what you want to do are probably BFG AT's
and i like the rims you have but you wil need spacers, or you could get any other rims you want, you should go with the 8 in wide size and either 4.0 backspacing or 3.75

Ummmm....this is straight off of my build sheet.

EPE - 2.5L Power Tech I-4 Engine
NF1S - 19 Gallon Fuel Tank

Best way for Ripcord (or any new owner) to find out the info on their Jeep is to go to www.jeep.com, put the VIN in and the factory build sheet will be emailed to you.

The 19 gallon tank was standardized on all TJ's in 99 i believe. So from 99 on they all have 19 gallon tanks. I have a 2.5 4 banger and i just put 18.4 gallons in the tank...that'd be hard to do if it only held 15 max
