Just bought another 2000 TJ

I just bought another TJ. This one belonged to my neighbor and he hasn't driven it since 2004. Close to stock 30000 on the clock 2500.00. My buddies and I have plans for this one, not sure how we are going to do it but we have the shop at the ranch and tools. We plan on totally dismantling this one and giving it the 426 Hemi elephant motor that has been sitting in the back of the shop for 20+ years, we also have an old PowerWagon pickup sitting there that looks like a suitable donor. I'm thinking this is going to turn into a monster mud wagon.

We're settin' around looking at it and figuring what its going to take to get it together, actually drinking beer and talkin' sh5t!!! lol. We think we're going to get started on it this weekend. I got a great bargain on it, seems to be in great shape. I was changing U-Joints in my TJ this morning, and the neighbor, who I wave at sometimes but never really talked to came walking up in my driveway. He introduced himself, complimented my Jeep and asked if I would like to buy his.(Hell Yeah!!!), seems he has a condition with his eyes and can no longer drive. His wife has a new Caddy and hates the Jeep. We talked a while and he really knows his Jeeps, he was an old desert racer back in the 60s and 70s. After I picked up the Jeep and got the title I couldnt help but think about how lucky I was to meet this guy. Wow look at me,rambling on, Just wish maybe I would have stopped by his place sooner and got to know him better.

Man, what a find! Congrats! Keep us updated on what you plan on doing with it. To tell you the truth, with only 30k on the clock, if it were me I'd fix it up to good running condition and flip it and use the cash to get that 426 in the Power Wagon and get that thing running. What year Power Wagon is it?

Make sure to hang the original 4.0L off the tailgate to keep the back wheels on the ground when going downhill...

You gotta do something with that 4.0...something creative but still usable. It's really a great motor.

The 4.0 that was in it is probably going in the corner of the shop as a stand by just in case something happens to the one in my TJ. We have the tub off and engine and trans is out. This frame is immaculate looks brand new. Been messing with it for a few hours now, think I'm gonna call it a night. Will try to get some pictures tommorow if it doesn't rain again.

The PowerWagon is a 1946 needs a little body work and about 6 gals of paint !!! It still runs wit the original engine just smokes a lot, we have to move it every now and then to mow the grass.

Just started dismantling the PowerWagon and it doesn't look good as far as the body and frame, just too much rust to save it. Gonna call a buddy of mine who owns a machine shop and talk about building a frame. Meanwhile the scrap guy is on his way.

Ok, I think Ijust got a decent deal, my machine shop buddy wants the TJ frame pretty bad. He's offering to build the frame I need for the TJ frame and 300.00 bucks. I'm thinking its a good deal, this guy really knows what he's doing. What do yall think?

this is true. he's wants to build a custom frame for the running gear and the engine that will accompany the TJ body without making it look like a chop job. He took the drive shafts back to his shop after checking a bunch of measuments. hopefully this thing will start coming together soon

You're putting a TJ tub on a Power Wagon frame?

We started out just wondering if we could, now the we are getting this other frame fabbed up it'll be closer to the original Jeep only a whole lot beefier. Later today we are going to attempt firing up the big Hemi on the stand. Hopefully getting the heartbeat thumping wont cost too much.

It LIVES.... The old 426 Hemi fired up and we ran it for close to an hour on the stand. The new frame is already under construction. We might have to change the water pump on the engine, but thats a minor thing and maybe some gaskets.

One of my workers who has been working cows this week will be at the shop monday, he is one of those young phone texter types he's going to try figuring the picture posting thing out. I have a bunch of pictures on my camera, just don't know how to put them on here. The debate around the shop right now is do we want chrome on this thing? A couple of the older guys like me are against it, but the younger boys are wanting to bling it out. Even though I own it, it is a group effort and we are kicking it around. I was looking at the projected cost of building this monster, and it looks like I'm gonna go broke buying beer!!! The thing is I am finding out a lot about the skills these boys have!!!

If you wanna mud it, why ruin the chrome? Chrome looks nice in moderation, a bumper or some trim but it doesn't make sense if you're going off pavement.

Thats what I say all the time, and I doubt this one will ever see a mall. Chrome looks great on my Motorcycle, but I don't want it on my Jeep.

You gonna try to make something like the AEV Brute? I think a TJ would look more badass than a JK like that.
