Just got a little more Savvy

Just got back from getting a Savvy front bumper. Gonna drop it off at the powder coating place. That thing is nice looking, stout and very light. Love it. Dangerous to go to his shop and chat though. Added a few more wants just looking around.

Eric

How well does aluminum take the powdercoating?

Very well - had other aluminum non-Jeep things coated with good success. I did make sure to ask and he said it will be good.

Hold on, how about if we talk about trading Savvy bumpers? I just bought Gerald's (half-owner of Savvy) Jeep & its front bumper is powdercoated black. It has one little flaw on top where the winch sat but the bumper itself is flawless.

You don't want coated? I did buy the paint prep version - not brushed. So it is not pretty enough to just put on there.

PM me and maybe we can work something out.

Oh I gotcha, I didn't even know Gerald offered them like that. Maybe not then but a good closeup photo of its finish would help, I might still. I wouldn't mind trading all of my powder coated Savvy stuff for natural finish like I had on my previous TJ, it really looked good.

Careful Jerry. You'll start a trend. Next thing you know, people will be polishing stuff and putting chrome back on 'em!

Did you have the others clear coated? If not, how did you keep the corrosion at bay?
I'm about to put one of their gas tank skids on my Jeep, and I have no plans on climbing my fat azz under there and polishing it!

You could just buzz it with a DA sander, say w/120 grit. Then clear over that. Ressembling a machine finish!!!

Since it's aluminum, I wasn't worried about it because I don't see any salt on the roads where I live Kate. I'd probably have had Savvy give it their anti-corrosion coating they offer if I lived in the salt belt.

I'm buying one from one of our club members. Well, as soon as his ribs heal and he can drop it off of his Jeep that is.

I'm kind of torn between leaving it aluminum or painting it black. I like black, it blends in.
They DO salt the roads here though, so thanks for the info.

Boy - it is dangerous to work just a few miles from Savvy. Just got back from getting their tail lights while out at lunch. Plus ordered more stuff.

Hey there's a Meet 'n Greet at the Bass Pro Shop in Rancho Cucamonga Saturday where Gerald from Savvy will be too, it is Savvy's one-year anniversary. Since both co-owners are friends of mine, I'll be there. It's a actually a M&G for a different (much smaller) Jeep forum but everyone is welcome. It's a top-down event so if you drive a Wrangler, take the top off for it. There will be some give-aways there too. Food too.

Saw posts for that on other boards too. Sadly - can't make it up there tomorrow. Have a softball game for my daughter right in the middle of the day. Dinner plans after that as well. ugh.

I assume those tires and wheels are for the Prius?

Do the LED tailights have an integral light for the license plate?

No - they do not. You need to do something for the plate like the light bolts or something similar. And you also need to do the LED flasher modification. They do have integrated side marker lights though.

Time to bring this thread back up. Just got back from Savvy with more stuff. Got a few parts that Gerald ordered for me and a set Savvy corner armor.

Time to really get to work and get all this stuff on the Jeep finally. The rear lift is all done. Now time to get the front axle out and put the new one in with all of the suspension, brake and steering upgrades. Then re-gear. Then I can finally wheel again. It sucks to have the nice weather and the only car to drive is the Prius since the Jeep is on stands.

Isn't that a conflict of interest.......literally? A Prius and a Jeep with the same name on the title?

Don't feel bad. When gas was over 4$ I was hyper milling my way past the pumps in an '01 classic prius with the Jeep sitting in the driveway. To bad mountains of Asheville killed the battery at 111k miles. Hope the same doesn't happen to yours.
