Just had my engine blow up.. flames n all.

Going down the interstate, going home for a visit before I go to my next base... Slung a rod I guess. Blew white smoke, lost my power, now have a hole in the bottom of my block. 4 weeks before I get married, and on my way home to see family I haven't seen in forever. What gives. Any advice? I have USAA, but doubt they cover this. Any good news at all?

4 cylinder or 6 cylinder? If it's a 4 cylinder, this gives you a chance to throw a 6 cylinder in if you like. That's some potential good news. Could make for a nice project as long as it's not your every day driver.

"Not paid off yet" translates to full coverage insurance to me. If that is the case you can get a couple quotes for a new motor, a couple quotes for rebuilding the motor (both with installation), get a check from your insurance company, buy a striker motor and put it in yourself.

Does it not work that way?

I do have full coverage.... But wasn't sure if that would be covered or not...?? I am going to call them Monday I guess and see what they say. Maybe tomorrow. A stroker would be awesome!

I've got State Farm, and they paid for my towing.. But then again, we had towing insurance.

Not sure what all is included in my insurance, so not sure about towing but that's a good thing to know for later!

Generally insurance doesn't pay for mechanical repairs, that is what warranties pay for.

Too bad some of the forum members near you could shuttle you to your destination. You know, someone drive you 25 miles where you get a ride with someone else for another 50, then another ride, etc.

Typically usaa will only cover major breakdown issues if you have a mechanical breakdown binder. And when I had usaa they covered 60.00 miles or the nearest service station, after that was up to you and the company towing the vehicle.

That would have been awesome! No way I could have ever repaid each one of them enough though.

Exactly.... Leave it to me, to break a bulletproof motor. Don't know what happened. Or how I done it. I was just driving it

Well, on the brightside is that replacement blocks are around $1500ish. A friend just replaced a tranny in her Acura and it was $5500 for just the tranny....so Jeep parts don't seem so bad. Still sucks though.

Replacement from atk? (Something like that) is like $1700. That would be your cheapest route. Your more expensive route would be a v8 conversion. Lol

There is already an organization like this for motorcycles. It's called BAM.

What is BAM: Free Nationwide Motorcycle Breakdown & Legal Assistance

If a biker breaks down, anywhere in the country, he/she calls a toll-free number. They contact whatever volunteer is available and in the area. That volunteer goes out to the biker, and lends a hand. (Towing, bringing tools, etc.)

It's free to join.
The only requirement is that you be willing to help out a fellow biker, if the occasion arises, and if you are available.

I think maybe we need an organization like this for our fellow Jeepers.

That sucks! I blew a motor once on the way to Colorado in a JK. It was a PIA. Thank goodness for the kind people in Utah! I'd go ATK or Golen for a new motor.
