'97 TJ, Hardtop, lifted, winch, extra top, jack, etc. 180kmiles, $6,800.

I'm happy with it - and that, my friend, is what counts.

I got mine for 9k about 5 years ago its a 2000 sahara had 60k on it...came from NY to NC but was hardly driven because the owner was in bad health. sold it to his mom to pay medical bills and she drove it down to NC to make her money back.

I paid 16,950 for my O5 in Feb of this year with 38000 I got it in Washington but live in Oregon. I knew it was an awesome deal for our area! I couldn't find another on in that price range for the year and mileage so i jumped on it!

Pricing is all done by the cost of living. In an area that has a higher pay scale they have a higher cost of living and that leads to stuff costing more.

My mouth always drops open at the prices from the mid west. They are so much cheaper than here on the west coast.

I consider the area I live in to have some of the lower resale values for tjs and $8500 is not a bad deal if its in good mechanical condition and not rusted. evenn 4cly tjs built like yours still go for close to that. I paid 13k for my 04 rubi with 81k on it last year and the state sent me a letter saying i paid under the book value and I had to pay the difference in taxes or give a reason why I paid what I did for it.

Jeeps are kinda pricey weather they are new or used IMO. I picked up this 98 TJ in June for $6500. It's a 4cyl/5spd with 98k on it. I'm in NW Minnesota and had to drive 200 miles to get mine. I feel I paid market price in my region, I'm super cheap and rarely pay market price.

I had a 98 Mercedes SLK 230 that I sold for $5800 to get my Jeep. That price made sense to me, It was a pretty refined car that was $40k when it was new. My TJ on the other hand was ~$14k when new. Jeeps hold thier resale better than a Mercedes. Enjoy the Jeep

Oh - I have already had to put a set of tires on mine so that puts me right at $7000

Isn't that the truth. Found mine here in Wenatchee and felt fortunate. Hardly any for sale period. I guess just too many beautiful sites that Need a Jeep to get too, plus everyone (westsiders) thinks everyone in the state are made of money (no offense to those on the west side who don't). I used to live over on the Dark side of the Cascades and I know.

97 tj 152000 miles $3200 . Required repairs to pass inspection $1000. Add ons after the fact, winch,cb radio, sirrius radio, bed lined, new bfg 31x10.5,gas cans, mucho tools, recovery gear air compressor.....you see the base price doesnt always mean a lot, looks to me like much of these items are already.

The line here is pretty much drawn between 95 and 97. Anything '95 or older is $4k or less unless it's had a bunch of mods. I've seen some people asking $5-$8k for like '92s because they've been all jacked up. Not even in great condition.
The 97-00/01s are usually in the $5k-$9k range depending on condition and miles. Anything newer than an '01 is going to run $8k (if you're lucky) to over $10k easy.

I am buying a '99 6cyl 4.0 with 98k miles for $5500. It looks good in and out, and the people I'm buying it from are getting it inspected before I pick it up... which is good because I guess it needed exhaust work to pass inspection!! I'm a tiny bit nervous about that. But hey, at least it will be fixed!

Yes. Chicago area dealers have used Jeeps priced higher than new ones on the same lot. I guess if there are enough stupid people around...

October 2009 the asking price for my 05 Tj Sport with dual tops was 14,500 with 11,050 miles on it, this thing was showroom condition... the price was a little below average here on the Jersey Shore

I looked at absolute JUNK for $6,000 to $7,500 in NW Jersey - Eastern PA. I just about gave up and my wife actually suggested taking a small loan so we can find something decent for 11 or 12k, but I wasn't willing to take on another monthly payment.

I think I got a good deal on my '98 sport 4.0 5 spd. with a 127,000 miles. I had to stop myself from drooling when he pulled up and was willing to give him cash on the spot. No rust, Rhino lined, ford rear, lifted on 33's and everything done right. He was asking 8k but he let me have it for 7k.

Don't tell my wife, but I probably put $2500 into it since…. It didn't NEED anything but I WANTED a couple things. :-) I think we all can relate to that.

Just picked up a 97 2.5l 5 speed with 178k. 12k winch, 4.88's, 6" lift, fairly new 35" BFG's for $4300. Came with soft and bikini.

Figured lifting and tires on a stock jeep would've been around $1500 so $2800 for the running jeep wasn't bad.

No death wobble, that's almost priceless.

December of 2010 bought a 97 sport 4.0 auto 3.55 posi. Both tops, full doors. Typical rust on top of drivers fender, and just below rear tailgate. Frame was sprayed and in good shape. 121K miles. Bought it for 5K. Guy was trading it in and was offered less than that for it. Put on new tires and rims, oil pressure sender and now a CPS. But otherwise been good. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal too. I see them asking 6-9K for 97's, 8K+ for 98-02 around here, Milwaukee, Chicago area.

I have to say ditto to everyone elses reply, I live in southern VA and was on craigslist and autotrader daily and within a 100 mile radius of where I live(Virginia and well into North Carolina) people are asking no less than 9 grand for jeeps. there is a dealer here in town selling a 99 or 2000 with 180000 miles for 7995. I found a great deal on one in a neighboring town about an hour away but by the time I finish getting it looking the way i want I will have spent almost as much as you

Paid 18,000 for a stock 2006 wrangler x with 17,000 miles. Saw a 1999 with 205,000 ragged out for 4000. Drove 2 hours to get my jeep. Spent the whole ride back wondering why I didn't get a jeep sooner.

Oh I can relate, I'm not sure about other areas but here seams if you try to trade in an altered jeep, the first thing they ask is, do you have the stock parts and will you change it back... Last tj I had was a 98 sport, 4.0, stick, soft top and they wanted the OEM radio, wheels, and bumpers :facepalm : my jaw just about dropped how much less he was going to give me if I left it that way...

Prices are Crazy in CT. Spent quite awhile looking at and driving different jeeps before I found and bought my 04. First one I looked at was an 01 TJ Rubi all mod out. Had over 135k on it and he wanted 19,500. Was beat to crap and leaking everywhere. Had a good laugh. Found one at a local dealership for 16,900 that had everything I was looking for. After a lot of bartering and walking away twice got it for 12,200. Hated even paying that much but I feel I got a good deal all the same. Love my Jeep

You know you drive a TJ when you have the parts for the mod, the right tools for the job, a BFH & still need a Sawzall to get the job done!
