Keep the rear track bar?

Do i need my rear track bar? I took off my rear sway bar for more articulation but I was wondering if i really need my track bar.

It is not my DD and I only drive it to the trails and back. not trailering.

any opinions or first hand experience with this issue?

Yes you absolutely need it!! TJ's are not built on leaf spring suspensions. They are a link suspension. The only way to remove the rear track bar is to triangulate the CA's

The track bar keeps the axle centered under the Jeep, without it the Jeep will track oddly on the road and can cause you to wreck!

yes, you need your rear track bar. and you need your rear sway bar...if it's properly setup, removing it won't give you any more articulation, it's absence will just make the jeep more unstable.

ok thanks for the info... I just got done installing 488s in my d30 and a g2 d44 axle in the rear.

and now the last thing to do is install my track bar! today will be the first time ive drove my jeep since last june!!!!!!!

x2 about the sway bar. Forgot to mention that. In some situations it helps to disconnect the front but the rear should remain connected at all times.

That's a good feeling! Congrats man! Be sure to check for clearance issues with the new axle at full bump, droop, and flex on each side.

X2 on both responses above. And removing your TJ's rear antiswaybar does not (!) increase its usable articulation.

If completely removing the rear antiswaybar on a coil spring suspension helped, the hardcore rock crawlers would all be doing that... and they're not.

For example, John Currie won the overall U.S. national (ARCA) rockcrawling championship on his Fireant Wrangler TJ running front and rear antirock antiswaybars. You can see John's rear suspension with its antiswaybar below in a pic I took years ago at the ARCA championship in Johnson Valley.

Removing the track bar & antiswaybar can help with a leaf spring suspension like the older CJs and Wrangler YJs but not with the coil spring suspension of '97 and newer Wranglers.

Great, now go reinstall your rear antiswaybar... its presence actually helps offroad & can actually help prevent a flop or a roll in some situations.

Will do! I bracket came with my lift for the rear track bar. Should I utilize that extended bracket on my d44 ?

Yes indeed if you have a suspension lift. That bracket helps recenter the axle once a suspension lift is added.

How tall is your lift? And do you have an sye/cv or stock driveline?

Ok. Just making sure. With an sye/cv you'd need an angled braket. But with that much lift, as Jerry said, it's definitely needed. You could also get the Currie rear track bar if you're looking to upgrade to an aftermarket one. I believe it's the only one that doesn't cause major clearance issues.

You have it installed? Those are by far the worst for clearance issues. You'd be better off with a stock on on the relocation bracket.

I lied!! I have the stock rear track bar! I have it installed and heading out to the jeep blessing tomorrow morning!!!

5 times you typed "antiswaybar". I've known for a while that you had a pet peeve for the "proper" nomenclature for that part, but damn that is tiring to read. Then 2 "anti-rock antiswaybar "'s and I have a headache.

Don't you know that it is called a sway-bar because its inventor was John Sway, not John Anti-Sway? Jeesh!
