Kicker speakers?

So I am thinking of tossing in some better speakers for the summer. I don't want to change the factory stereo cause I want to draw as little attention as possible (35" tires yeah right).
Has anyone tried the drop in kickers sold through quadratic?
I have 2 additional kicker subs built into the rear seat so I am not to worried about low end.
Feedback and other suggestions appreciated.

I put Kickers from QTec all the way around. I like them a lot. Easy to install and they sound great. I have a Sony after market stereo I bought from QTec also.

I'd recommend getting the bracket off ebay to put 5.25 kickers in the dash and put 6.5s in the sound pods.

If you are putting those kind of speakers in, I would definitely recommend swapping out the factory stereo. You would be amazed at the sound difference, even with just a $150 head unit.

I've got the Kicker front dash speaker replacements - they make a kinda popping sound if you push them too hard when that happens, I drop the volume one notch.

Just got regular speakers in the sound bar.

The combination of Kickers in the dash and regular soundbar speakers didn't really come alive till I got an amp and sub in the back - absolutely no comparison.

My Wrangler came with the same Sony Xplod with removable faceplate that q-tec sells. I tried that with several speaker combos. It stunk. I replaced it with a $40 EBay factory CD/cassette stereo for the same reasons as you, but I didn't want amps or subs.

I tried the 5.25 speakers (pioneers) with metal adaptors. They couldn't handle the tiny kick of the factory stereo. My buddy had some kicker 5.25s he let me try out, swapped them in, tried the metal adaptors and plastic adaptors with same result. They rattled and vibrated like crazy, sounded like crap.

I pulled the kickers out and got some 4x6s from Crutchfield (Boston Acoustics, Crutchfield supplied the adaptors for free) and the boom-mat baffles form Amazon for $8. Stuffed some polyfill from an old pillow in behind them and they sound absolutely fanastic.

A lot of guys swear by the kickers and the 5.25s, I didn't have very good results from them. I've ended up with the factory stereo, factory size Rockfords in the sound bar, and the BA 4x6s in the dash, didn't have to cut anything or modify anything, and to me the sound beats the heck out of the Xplod with 5.25s.

Shop around at and you'll find all sorts of information about car speakers. I can't attest to the Kickers as I have Polks in mine but maybe you can at least get them cheaper than QTec. And I agree with the others about swapping out your head unit as it's really dirt cheap nowadays and it's like night and day sound-wise. I think I paid around $150 for mine and it has an AUX and a USB port right on the face so I use a $5 flash drive in the USB and never have to worry about it. Mind you security really isn't an issue for me so keep that in mind of course.

Thanks guys for the great advice. That deal on quadratech stinks. You can get the speakers from crutchfield for a third the price, load them into your cart and set the vehicle and they give you the pigtails and brackets for free.
The prices where so good I stepped up to the kicker ks series so when i bump up the head unit they can take it. Googled a coupon for another $20 off too. Went with your additional advice and did the 5.25 conversion up front and hit eBay for the brackets. All still less than QT.
Thanks guys. Yay, weekend project coming up.
