knocking noise Help!

So for a while now i have had a knocking noise coming from under the driver side floor board while driving. I recently had new control arms replaced, added quick disco's and had the jeep re-geared. I added a second steering stabilizer, extended brake hoses, changed every fluid possible, and did a complete tune up. I had thought the installation of the control arms would stop the knocking noise, but its still there. The only thing i know that needs to be replaces right now is the catalytic converter....it rattles a little, but that is on the passenger side of the Jeep...If anybody has any insight...it'd be great..thanks.

Some info:
97 Tj 5spd...and runs like a champ
2.5" suspension, 1.25" BL
33' KM2
Adjustable control arms all around
Quick disco's
Adjustable Trac Bar...just replaced the ball joint

You didn't mention anything about your front driveshaft. Have you checked for bad u-joints?

I didn't check that out, but i did replace the 2 corroded u-joints on the front axle.
Oh and forgot to mention that my speedometer is off by about 10-15 mph...i know there is a small pin sized gear for that in the tc

I would check the front driveshaft. More than likely a bad u-joint and/or the double cardan joint could be wore out as well.

I believe you have to buy it through the dealer? Maybe someone else can chime in on places to get it?

I mean the noise isn't too bad, only hear it after a bump at high speeds, and if im in 5th gear on driving at 2200 rpm and keep it there it will be a contant thumping. Ill probably throw it on the lift and check it out sometime today or tomorrow

Check the transfer case shifter rod. I've got a noise coming from underneath too, but if I push down on the 2/4wd lever, it goes away. Apparently it's more common on lifted cars (mine isn't). Something to do with a worn bushing - probably a $3 part. (And $200 labor!!)

There are some postings on this noise on the Forums, and there's even a Tech Service Bulletin on it. It's not particularly loud, more of an irregular dull tapping.

x2 on possibly being the t-case linkage. There is a TSB out for it, it's a 30 minute fix after you get the part from the dealer. Or you can get something like the Novak shifter cable and solve the problem for good.

As far as replacing the joints/centering ball kit in the DC joint of the front drive shaft, I got the best prices online, plus I wanted Spicer parts which can be hard to find. Use the part numbers in this writeup to google and find dealers:

T-case shifter rod is more than likely the problem. It's a common problem.

Thanks guys, im looking into replacing the t-case linkage...hopefully that does the job. And i just noticed today that i also have some bad vibes at 2300 RPMs in 5th gear, not quite sure if it could be driveline vibes or a tires need to be balanced....and their goes my paycheck!
