Larger Tires

Ok heres what I got. A 2002 TJ, 1 inch body, 2.5 inch suspension. Running 31X10.50 Geolander HT/S atm. My question is what would be the largest Tire I can put under it. I Also have the Dana 35, a wonderful piece of Glass under it. My long term plan is to convert a Ford 9" or grab a Dana 44 out of a Rubicon (depends on how energetic I am that week) I have been told dont run anything Larger then 32's with the Dana 35. Is this true or are they blowing smoke.

You should have room under your Jeep to fit 33" tires with little to no rubbing... As for the durability of a Dana 35, you will hear stories of guys running 38's and lockers and not having any issues, but the axle is a very weak link in the drivetrain in my personal experience. I have bent 3 axle shafts on a Dana 35 with 32" tires and a 2.5L motor in my first YJ, so I am not a big fan of them myself. If you are going to build a new axle in the immediate future anyway, go with whatever you want, just be aware that you may have a reason to speed up that build sooner than later!

you can clear 33's fine with your 3.5 inches of lift...RE makes a 3.5" lift and they say you can clear 33's fine...the durability of the axle will depend on how heavy your foot is and how often you take it off road

I drove my last TJ like I stole it from the day I got it to the day I sold it. It had the D35 and 31x10.50 BFG AT's. I never had a problem with the axleshafts, but I DESTROYED my ring gear, pinion gear and spider gears by dumping the clutch on hard acceleration. I was pulling out into traffic....and maybe showing off just a little. I limped home in front wheel drive with a "rocks in a dryer" sound coming from the rear end.

Like they said, its all in how you drive.

I am now officially broke. Got a set of 33x12.50' wrangler mt's
Will be eating spam and popcorn for a week but it was worth it. heres a couple of pics, the 33's fit nicely under the jeep with no adjustments needed.

Thanks all for the advice. 33's was the way togo

What, you got something against SPAM and popcorn? Huh? I've been eating Ramen Noodles and Vienna sausage with saltine crackers for the past week since I bought my lift, tires and other stuff.

Heck yah, I'm going next weekend to get some siders and bumpers. That means I only have another month of this, unless I find something else to buy.

LOL not to sidetracked, the lift was done already, was just waiting on a deal for the tires. Will have to go a week without my coffee and cigarettes though, lol. Been wanting to put a cage in it for about 6 month now though. that keeps getting sidetracked.
