Largest tire on OEM tire carrier?

I have 31" tires in my "06 TJ and the original 225 on the tire carrier. This doesn't do me any good if I get a flat tire. What is the largest tire I can put on the tire carrier w/o doing any damage and also not block the 3rd brake light?

I wouldnt risk larger than 31"s. I ran 32"s and didnt have an issue with the brake light but over time my hinges became shot from the extra weight and now rattles like hell.

Having cracked the OE spare tire carrier when I was running a 33x12.50 spare, 32x11.50 is the biggest you can run without much worry. I haven't heard of too many issues with 32" tires on it anyway. It won't block the 3rd brake light as it is only 1" taller from the mount than a 30" tire is.
When you have a choice, buy American.

32" on alloy rims you will be fine. 32" on steel will be pushing the max.
Anyone who can legally own a firearm can carry it concealed in Vermont with no permit/license

Mine never had any issues when I had 32x11.5s. Moved up to 33x12.5s and could watch it rattle around on the tailgate.....decided I would just suck it up and buy a carrier, rather than wait for it to break at some inopportune moment.
