Thought I would post this. Recently one of my reverse lights went out so I decided to go ahead and replace all four bulbs (two reverse lights, two brake lights) with LED. Final price off eBay was $11, which is pretty cheap.
I would post the link but links tend to go bad after a while. You should have no problem finding it by search something along the lines of 'TJ led brake reverse kit'.
Here the before (this is with the headlights on and the reverse lights on. It's even brighter with the brakes engaged):
After:
The brake lights are certainly better. They're definitely brighter and therefore safer. Absolutely a must do for your Jeep, especially considering the price.
However, I have mixed feelings about the reverse lights. Yes, they certainly look a bit better being a cooler blue light rather than a warm yellow light. I'm just not sure they really suit the Jeep (my Jeep at least). The modern LED's don't really blend in well with my Jeep and look somewhat out of place.
That said, I'm gonna keep it how it is. The LED brake lights are a great improvement, and the LED reverse lights are good also. For $11 you can't go wrong. Installation also could not have been easier. 3 minutes at most. You can spend $90 on brand new LED brake light assemblies, or you can spend $10 on just the bulbs and have almost identical results. Something worth considering...
I'll try to get some before and after night shots later today.
Also, another thing worth mentioning. When you replace with LED, you're blinker will seem like it's on steroids. It blinks incredibly fast. It still works, but it can also be fixed. From the little research I've done, it can be fixed by replacing the relay... That's all I know for now.
Well if your like me even many different flasher relays later all my dash lights blink including hvac lights when the blinker is on. I've given up on led tails/ and turns but I love my reverse lights. Much brighter!
After some time with the lights I'm glad I converted to LED. Anyone reading this should absolutely go ahead and do this. Like I said before, for $10 you can't go wrong.
:thumb:Just upgraded mine this past weekend, and I think I like the blinkers on steroids they are attention getters. Opted to leave my original relay alone. The LEDs are a definitely a good thing.
^Perfect fit, super bright (def. brighter than stock). The reverse lights are, as expected, the biggest improvements. They actually help when you're backing up (imagine that). Took all of 3 minutes to install (if you can't install these, you shouldn't be owning a Jeep IMO).
Night photos (although pics don't do it justice):
Reverse lights only (the lights aren't blue in person, completely white):

Just pulled the trigger on this fix. Seems great for the price. Anyone figured exactly how to slow the blinker down to normal again after using these bulbs?
They are 1156 sir. I have leds in mine but I got flush mount pods I'm gona be putting in the bumper just for more light for hooking up trailers and doing stuff behind the jeep. The leds in the revers lights help a lot but who doesn't want more light 😎
I did this a month or so back.
I ended up buying the LED lights at Walmart. Not as cheap as Ebay but I like to walk out with them in hand vs ordering from online.
1156 white bulbs and 1157 red bulbs.
2 in each pack.
only downside is the plate light is now illuminated red.
I read that the red led is alot brighter than white led through the red tail light lens.
I wished I had done this easy and cheap mod sooner. really made the rear lights alot brighter.
I see 1156 for 10. Will those work on most of the lights, not just the tails? Also, that fast blinking...... will it burn out the relay faster? I wont mind the fast blink.
OK.... where do i get the E26 flasher then the obvious question.... where do i put it? Is it under the dash? I assume its required even if you replace the front and rear blinker. Those were cool..... just ordered me some. Those back up lights on a jeep are dim.
X2. White light is all colors. The red lens filters out all color except red. Put a red led behind a red lens and all of the available light will pass through the lens.
For those of you considering these.... dont do what i did. Ordered a pack and found 1156 ISNT the ones for the turn signals as well as the back up like they said. Turn signal works find.... BUT you cant run your running lights AND turn signals. So look for the 1157s. I really should have looked at ALL the light before buying. It seems those front turn signals are the same kind of bulbs nor are the side fender ones. So a pack of 10 bulds aint such a good deal when you end up with 8 left....... duh.
So what would I need to replace my brake lights, back up lights, and turn signals with to LEDs? Are all of these LEDs different sizes? If I put a red LED in my brake light will it make my license plate light red, because I can't see that being legal here in PA.
The back up light on my 04 is 1156.... the turn signal/running lights are 1157. The fender lights are tiny bulbs and the front lights are different as well. If you get the 1157 for the blinkers you are good, but you need the white 1156 id say to ensure your tag lights are white.... thats where that light comes from. Super nice having brighter back up lights.
I drilled a hole in the top of the light used some rtv and snugged the bolt down. I will try and get some pic's later. That light was made to fit there guys it's perfect.
