LED bulb problems with parking lights.

Ok, I did a search and couldn't find an answer. Here goes.

I have a 1997 Magenta (Barney purple) Jeep wrangler 4.0 5 speed.

I have tried to add aftermarket LED bulbs to the front turn signals and the rear. This is NOT an entire new taillight, but rather just replacement bulbs that I got off eBay. The bulb numbers are 3157 and 1157.

The bulbs work great except when I turn on the parking lights, the led lights will go out and I can't get them to come back on. When I swap the bulbs out with the original ones they work fine.

This is not the problem with hyperflashing, as I was able to fix that with some resistors. I tried taking the resistors off, still the same problem.

Anyone else have the same problem?? I'm sorta out of ideas at this point.

Thanks!

The rear 1157 bulbs look like this, excuse the HUGE image.

The front and front side turn signal circuits reverse polarity when the lights are turned on.
LED's are polarity sensitive (they are DIODES after all), where incandescent bulbs will work no matter the polarity.

Thanks for the reply.

I had a feeling that the polarity might have been changing but I wasn't quite sure.

So I guess there is no easy way to swap the bulbs out then? I can't image its easy to somehow correct the parking light polarity issue.

I could always just flip the polarity of the bulb and only drive around with the parking lights/headlights on, but I don't think LED bulbs are worth the hassle.

I added small LED turn signals and running lights from metalcloak, I also placed a new LED EP-26 and now my turn signal speed slowed down but I only have turn signals when my running lights are on. No running light on, no turn signals. Was this part of your problem too?

Yes, that is due to the polarity reversing circuitry.

Thanks for starting this thread I just tried the same thing. I am going back to original bulbs. It is too cold in Jersey now to do this outside!
