Left my dome light on overnight...

Was worried with having battery problems lately (sometimes when turning key on everything dies) and the cold. Jeep started right up though, just lucky? Act of god or does the dome draw very little current hahaha

Good for you. Hehe once my dads gand cherokee had a prob with the brake lights sending unit and the brake lights stayed on for 2 nights and the battery didnt die. Offcourse he drove it in the day time but still 2 nights is good.

My '04 will automatically shut the dome light off if it's on for more than 20 minutes or something like that.

^ I didn't know that, good knowledge to have though. Now I'll only have to be anal about my headlights and not worry about the domes.

Why are you leaving your dome light on all the time?

I guess that's one of the bad things with the dome light coming on all the time by itself.

Heck,
I just recently figured out how to turn dome light on manually! Knob on shaft is VERY stiff/sticky. Was afraid to twist on it that hard for a long time. Now it turns rather easily.

This is my dome light. If I leave it on I'm out $4 and a trip to wal-mart.

Don't judge.

I drained my battery twice forgetting to turn off the dome light. If the dang thing was as bright as it should be, I'd have noticed and turned it off. It's hard to tell it is on when you have tinted windows and a driveway light nearby. I'm going LED soon.

just an FYI, LED's won't penetrate through the tint. While they will be brighter inside the vehicle, you might not be able to tell they're on from the outside.

Yeah, the suddenly die symptom definitely sounds like a loose or corroded ground... check your ground wires for corrosion...pull the terminal off and clean it up real good with a battery terminal brush especially if there's a lot of corrosion on it and then make sure it's good and tight when you put it back on. They also make a nifty spray that eats (neutralizes?)...the stuff I've got is made by Exide.

Dang it! I did it again yesterday! I don't remember turning the dome switch on yesterday but I guess I did. I opened my door so that the wife and I could switch places in the driveway for me to go to work the next day and noticed that the light didn't come on like it should. It was on, but very dim because the battery was drained. I had to drift out of the driveway to get a jumpstart from my wife's van.

Why does that little useless light draw so much? Do LED lights draw less so that the battery is less likely to drain all the way down?

I left mine on again last night... somehow it started right up despite the drain from the dome light AND it being around 0 F out here haha, guess my old battery is still alive and kicking well

LED's draw a fraction of the power that traditional incandescent lights do. That is why you are seeing them more and more in battery operated equipment. For an example a regular flashlight might last 4 hours before dying where a LED model could last 30 hours with almost no light reduction until 20% of the battery power is left. Another benefit is without having a filament to burn out the bulbs last 20,000+ hours vs a few hundred hours plus they hold up to more abuse without failure. Do a search on benefits of LED lighting to find out more. Just realize with the technology the price is higher but can be saved over the life of bulbs and battery replacement.

I do this way to often! just went outside to fire up the jeep....the battery was soo dead that nothing inside worked. jumped started it from our other car and the jeep woulden't even idle. i had to keep on the gas for 30-60 seconds before it would idle......

luckily i found the charger and have it plugged in now.

does anyone have any creative ways to stop yourself from doing this? lol im such an idiot

haha like i said im an idiot. ill come home at night, turn on the dome light to make sure i got everything that needs to come in, and forget to turn the knob to turn it off.

i have even done it in a hospital parking structure, luckily i was there with family and they were parked next to me, so i was able to jump from them.

My red LED swap is more noticable than the stock incadescent. I also have a blueish-white bulb to swap in if I get bored.
