Lift Kit questions..I seriously need help

Alright, I have been looking at getting a 3-4" lift for my Jeep. I have a budget boost on it and a body spacer but I want to do away with the budget boost, and also I need a new coil spring and new control arms all the way around..so I just thought, if I am going to replace them anyways..might as well go bigger. I don't want to replace them now and then in a few months/years spend money to replace them again with something bigger/better. I would rather just go big now.

My question is, where can I find a lift kit that is relatively cheap (I have been looking at the Zone ones), and I figure I will need a SYE. I am trying to find a package deal somewhere. I tried searching the forums but I am pretty sure that almost every thread has the words lift, kit, and help in them somewhere so I have had no luck.

Does anybody know where I can find a combo deal? Also, what all exactly will I need. All the lift kits I have seen do not come with upper control arms, and I contacted a customer service at one place a month or two ago and asked why and he said they were not needed..that just seems a bit odd to me. Do they use the stock uppers? I am just wondering because I want to do this in the least costly way possible. I don't want to order something and think I have it all and then find out that I need something else.

So if anybody could tell me exactly what all I need, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for any help.

3-4" kits usually do not come with arm because they are not 100% necessary.

Like said above, how much are you looking to spend? Are you doing it yourself or are you paying for labor? What size tires? What are you looking to do with it? How much BL? 3-4" with a BL is getting pretty high.

What is your use of the jeep. You can have a decent lift for under 1g and deal with a t'case drop until you cant get the sye/cv combo.

Also...it's always cheaper to do things right the first time.

What tire size do you want to run/

I am doing all my labor myself..and I have 35s on it right now. I was just looking to upgrade my lift to a real lift besides the budget boost

Keeping your 35's... you're looking at a 4" suspension if you are keeping the body lift... if you Keep the body lift, a 3" suspension should work fine. To stay cheap, keep your 2' body lift. It really isn't much of an issue, just an eye sore to most IMO.

As for 3" lifts you can go a number of ways and maybe stay away from the SYE (which will be about $400).

The most expensive parts are going to be the control arms, for good ones you are looking at ~$1k for all eight of them, but they all won't be entirely necessary in a 3" lift. Getting a kit with new lowers will help.

The Zone kit you are looking at might be just the ticket for your price range.

The use of my Jeep is my DD. I haven't played offroad very much because it has 35s and no flex with my BB and BL. I am not going to be doing anything hardcore or anything

You wouldn't need upper controls at 3'' lift. Only reason you would need them is in the rear with a sye/cv combo to set the pinion angle.

so, let's say I got this... 3" TJ JEEP WRANGLER LIFT KIT SUSPENSION COILS 97-06 - eBay (item 360334399489 end time Feb-06-11 12:02:52 PST)
would I still need to drop the t-case? and I wouldn't need upper control arms?

That would probably be your "cheapest" route... but IMO, I'd save a little bit of money and get a good kit that comes with everything. Something like the Currie 4" or an OME lift.

Drop the t-case: Maybe..
Need upper arms: no - but always a good investment.

Yes you would most likely have to drop the t-case. Also that kit comes with no control arms you use all stock arms with it.

With the price the same as ZONE direct....I wouldn't purchase it from fleebay. If you purchase straight from the dealer you get better service.

Here is there site...Ruggedly engineered suspensions from Zone Offroad

Also if you look in the vendor section you will find deals on the Zone products.

You will also still have to adress the trackbars or live with it.

So do the stock arms work with it? I won't have to purchase replacement control arms on top of the lift? And what is the trackbar issue? Sorry, I obviously know not one thing about lifting a Jeep.

When you lift a TJ with track bars it tends to pull the axles out to the sides. Using adjustable track bars will help center the axles back under the Jeep.

haha any price one of those? And I am pretty sure this has already happened on mine..but it may just be that it was in an accident before I got it...Idk..

Control arms depend on lift height/need of the user. At 3'' your are fine with stock 4'' you need new lowers.

Track bar issue....Your axle is centered under your jeep using a trackbar. The track bar is connected to your axle and the other side to the frame. It is a solid fixed unit stock. When you lift the vehicle the axle is moved further down from the vehicle. With a fixed trackbar , this will pull the axle to the driverside on the front axle and to the passenger side on the rear axle.

To correct the issue you can do several things. Rear..use a trackbar braket for the kit or an aftermarket adjustable track bar. Front. you can use and adjustable or drop track bar bracket but on front if you drop braket the trackbar you also need to use a drop pitman arm to keep the angle parrell.

Check out the DPGoffroad link I posted and the currie link. It will give you prices for the parts seperater or with whatever kit.
