Close. Measure the wheel mounting surface to the outside of the wheel.

Here is my .02 buy 15" rims with 3.5" to 4" of back spacing. The tires are cheaper and you won't need spacers.

You want to measure the back side of the rim. From where the wheel sets against the rotor to the back outside lip.

OP I been running 33" tires successfully on and off road for awhile now, and my Jeep is my daily driver. Check out my components in the link provided.

Jeep Space - IslandTJ

Note: I just installed a SYE but prior to, I was running a transfer case drop and MML to bring my driveline angles back to tolerance. For a 2" suspension lift, generally you shouldn't get any vibes but if you do, a simple motor mount lift (MML) should resolve (I had to run a transfer case spacer as I was also running a tummy tuck skid). Oh, and I also ran a 2" BDS suspension lift prior to the OME. I highly endorse BDS if you prefer to spend half the cost of an OME lift.

That should be a 5.5" back spacing on the factory wheel. I cannot say for sure on that particular wheel due to it being a bit of an oddball.

that particular wheel is a ford something or other. just a picture to demonstrate the concept.

I agree with this big time. You can pic up cragars for around $60 a piece...or check out craigslist or ebay because there always seems to be someone selling a set. Quadratec has been a reliable source for me. Word of warning for quadratec, if you buy 5x4.5 bolt pattern cragar wheels, do not buy the Black Rock center caps they offer as an option. They say in the catalog and online that they will fit 5x4.5 wheel, but they are way too big. I called and talked to a guy at Quadratec and he mentioned that it was a typo or something. I returned mine and got the Chrome center caps and they're perfect. Like rda616 said, the tires are cheeper in the end. Also, you can run a wider tire, and after market wheels just look freakin awesome!!

And he should be able to sell his factory wheels and tires to recover a couple hundred bucks. A major win, win imo. Also it's a real pita to find a load range c tire for a 16" rim if you go over 31".

Sure thing!! I actually kept mine though. Here in pa we can get some snow which is no big deal, that's what 4 wheel drive is for. But its the black ice that you don't see and cant plan for that will take a short wheel base jeep with wide tires and turn it into a bob sled. So in the winter Ill use my stock wheels with a good set of narrow snow tires, and I get them studded. It looks funny, but I spun my first jeep to its demise and fortunately no one got hurt (just totaled the jeep), but I'm not taking chances. But whitetj is in ol' Mississippi...sell those puppies.

is it possible to put 33x12.5 tires on stock rims with 3.25" suspension lift and 1"body lift? or would i have to use spacers and get an sye? or would the drive shaft be lined up if i didnt use the body lift? i guess what im asking is what is the easiest way to put 33's on with out spending a lot of $$ (i dont want those puck suspension spacer things) Im new to this and this is my first all help would be appreciated! Also if anyone had pics of 33's on 15" rims with 3-4 inch lift id love to see them

In order to go to 33s you should replace your rear number one cuz that d35 you have (if your still stock) is horrible, regear to a higher ratio (again if your stock) somewhere around 4.56 gears, you would need to get new rims because of backspacing issues and the overall width of the tire itself, personally not a big fan of wheel spacers either, the best way to do it is to get a 2.5in bb and a 1.25in bl and I believe you can do it but again everything I mentioned above should get done so you can handle and wheel it with no issues, or just get a 4in suspension lift and do it the right way in my opinion that works out the best instead of just slapping some big tires with some ghetto lift kit which will have more issues than doing a whole suspension lift but you will get many different opinions

ok thanks! so if i do a 4" lift with 33's on bigger rims ( is there any rims that you sugggest using?) with an sye would that be all i need?

I did a 3.25" lift with 33x12.5. For me it was just right. I bought offset rims to avoid spacers which worked out well. If you're using as a daily driver (which is what mine is) then MT tires IMO aren't the best option. Do a little research on tires that can take you places offload yet not wear down in 20k miles. I have an '02 and was lucky enough to not have to chg gearing. May upgrade later but for what I do right now she does well. All said and done my kit, rims and tires came out to under $2k.

You'll need the sye extended rear driveshaft and if your going with 33s regearing would be a good idea too but you should do an axle swap before you go to 33s and regear trust me it takes time

If you are not doing anything hard core just get a 3.5" suspension KIT and roll on. Budget for a SYE just in case.

Just by way of perspective, I have a 2" Daystar lift with coilspring spacers, shocks and a ProComp steering stabilizer. The tires are 275/65/18 which are effectively 32x11

The Jeep rides smooth, like stock, has a noticable lift and good stance. works well off road for the logging trails I ride on.

One thing to consider... If you're going to be adding heavy bumpers, winches, etc. new springs are a must, and as others have said, buying individual components is almost always better than a "kit". Coil springs, in particular, can very a lot from brand to brand in their loading, compression, etc. (some springs will give you the rated lift, but will sag easily with a little added weight, others will be too stiff). Manfacturers like MOOG make springs for hundereds of vehicles and many springs for other vehicles will fit the Wrangler. I'm sure a lot of forum members can speak to the not-necesarially-Wrangler springs they have. Actually, custom made springs are not that expensive and when I go to new bumpers, I'll have springs made at that time.
