So I have a 2002 apex edition and it's got the 4.0 5 speed. 3.73 gearing. So first question is are 33s gonna work with 3.73. I read 4.10's are recommended but heard 3.73 will work. Also as far as the lift goes, would it be better to go with a 2.5" suspension lift then maybe like a half inch body lift or just go with 3" suspension lift. Done a lot of ready and guys say body lifts are bad some say good. Also if I did go with that set up what else would be included, would I need to mess with brake lines? Trying to do this the legit way the first time. As far as budget like I said I wanna do it right. It's my daily driver but where I'm at, trail ridding is about the only thing I do on weekends.
Read more about the Zone 4.25" lift, that gives you plenty of room for 33"s and is a very well thought out lift that takes in to consideration what's needed vs what's not.
You can do it. Your Jeep will lose some of it's zippiness, and you'll feel it struggle a little on hills. Soon it will become your new normal as you'll forget what it felt like to drive at the factory final drive ratio. l
I have 3.73 gears and 32's. Hills and highway is where I see the most difference. 5th is pretty much a cruise gear and will only very slowly increase speed when going on the highway. And hills I dropped a gear from what I usually take them.
Welcome...Judging by your post count and your questions it seems you are a newer member.
FWIW you CAN run your 3.73s with 33"s...and you would be "okay", New Mexico is a fairly dry state.......I bring that point to light as I did the same things you are asking about....2.5" OME SL and JKS 1.25" BL and MML and Cragar soft 8s with 33" Duratracs......it was "okay" on the street. '04 SPort 4.0 5spd 3.73s Dana 44 rearend.
But the first Mud hole I hit, I could really tell a difference. Spots that were "No Problem" with 31's were now a major issue. I came to accept the fact the MAJORITY of the Forum members know what they are talking about...with 33"s on a TJ 4.56s is good but 4.88s are better...I now have 4.88s and it is once again a very capable Jeep.
Use the search function and type in, "Why regear"...and spend the next several hours reading......you can do the same with "What type of lift for my TJ" and lastly "What wheels/ tires for TJ" or "What BS for 33"s"....
Not trying to dampen your question but there is a lot of information out there.
I went with the setup I have based on the information from this Forum.....The OME lift rides better than stock with the 26psi I run on the street...IMO it actually rides as well as my '12 JK if not better....and off road I would always take the TJ over the JK...mainly because my JK is bone stock..and will be for a very long time.....I can only speak to the quality of my experience and I have no complaints....doing it "cheap" can frequently lead to doing it more than once.
IMO I would go with an 1.25 BL (I have a JKS) you won't have to do anything "different" if you go up a .5" or 1.5"....well except raise the body another inch.....but the rest is same thing......That is what I did and am very satisfied.....
Thanks again, I want to start getting serious about buying parts so I think it's gonna be happening soon
