Little advise?

I have a 97 4cy with the ax-5 trans. Recently my 3rd gear Started to get rough. Replaced the oil and still will not shift with out grinding really bad.. Even double clutch Does not fix the issue.. So Looks like I need a new 3rd gear synco or a new transmission.. I'm really strapped for cash at the Min, but I have a lift and can do any work myself. Should I take the trans out, and have it rebuilt or buy a new or used one? Would really like to replace the trans under 800 dollars if possible. Any advise?

The ax-5 is well known for gear problems with higher miles most of the time. I would see how much a low miles used one vs what you think it will take to fix your will run and go from there. another option you might want to run the cost for is putting in a AX-15 out the 6cly..
