I been thinking about locking my front axle. I have a stock d30 with 33" tires. I'm a broke college student and can't afford one of those 1-2k air lockers. Is there any lockers that aren't that pricey but are good? By good I mean like a good product for the price? I have like 200$ in a little "savings" jar which I was planning to use toward a back bumper/ tire carrier since I have a stock one. My max price would probably be around 200-350. Or is buying a locker that cheap not even worth it?
You're from esco right? Or live near there, is there any nearby Offroad stores that might have it? I checked 4 wheel parts they don't seem to carry Aussie. If not then I'll just have to order online
Will this locker mess up my axle if I turn too sharp? I was reading something about lockers like destroying the whole axle from turning to sharp or something like that. Not too sure.
It won't break anything. You should only be off road when you engage 4 wheel drive which also puts the auto locker in play. DONT use 4wd on dry pavement. There's enough give in the system for it to work right off road. You'll find the steering to be a little heavier when turning in 4wd and an occasional pop in the front axle if if binds a little. Nothing to worry about. It's a lot of bang for your buck. You'll be amazed at the improvement in your off road capability.
I took the advice from here, and ordered a aussie locker for my dana 30. Was nothing to install ( takes about 2 hours if youre not familiar with doing it, theres also a good youtube video on the install online. ) I'd highly recommend it, I am running 35's and have no issues!
How hard would the install be if I'm not very mechanically inclined? If I do it, it'll be at a friend's garage and he is extremely mechanically inclined i.e. He's a mechanic, but he would only be able to guide me because he is having a hip replacement in a week or two.
I am running Lokka Lockers. and love them. They are pretty much the same a Aussie, just about $50 cheaper. and have a better warrantee. I have 2 (front and rear) and have 4 buddy's with them as well with no problems LOKKA - Automatic Differential Locker
If you can change brakes, you can do a locker. Its easy, just pay attention to the instructions. Watch this video before you decide to do it yourself, itll be a heads up for what you are up for. I never bought the new parts like he had, I just bought the aussie locker and reused the factory parts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEWYMuWOJws
if you have any questions you can always post on the forums and the guys can help ya out during the install
