lockers: front or rear???

So when i get my wrangler i have a couple of bucks that i plan to spend. i was thinkin about goin with the 4 " X series Rough Country lift, SYE/CV driveshaft, new 33X12.15, changing the gear ratios to 4.56....my only dilemia is....i really don't have the money to swap my dana 35 for a 44, SOOOOO

should i just go and put front lockers on and wait until i can get the dana 44 for my rear or should i just go for it??

or better yet, when i go looking, i read somewhere that some wranglers have the dana 44 already on them, is this any specific years of the wrangler besides the rubicon or is it just people who have put it on themselves and then sold the wrangler down the road??

First, off if you don't have a TJ yet then you might just want to hunt a little more for ones with the 44. Your best luck is going to be a Sport or Sahara model. Just check the rear dif and if it has a plastic drain plug (Dana 35), metal drain plug (Dana 44).

Otherwise if you buy a TJ with a 35 then I would swap out that rear axle instead of a re-gear right away. I have a 4.0 auto with 35's on it and still running stock gearing of 3.73. I like it's gearing personally. You can put an 8.8 or a 44 in there for the same price as the re-gear.

it wont matter that im looking for a manual? if that's the case then i guess upgrading to the dana 44 would be my better bet...its just that this is gonna be a half and half deal, half highway half offroad, so i wanna make sure i can still use 5th on the highway but still be geared right for the trails, which is usually rock and mud...

Think of the Dana 44 as an option..like power windows. It is hard to say which ones will have them and which ones dont with out getting under it and looking.

if you plan on runnin 33's then i definitely wouldn't go with a locker in the rear unless you have the dana 44 rear axle. otherwise you could snap an axleshaft when you go wheelin
