Locksmith in the house?

Well, you probably don't need to be a locksmith, but I am certainly not one, and could use some help.

I bought a lockbox center console, with a broken lock. Figure it's not a hard fix, just need to know what size lock I need? I went to home depot and grabbed two different types that look like they might work, one is a mailbox lock (5 cam) and the other one is a 5/16th thick panels cabinet and drawer lock. I put a picture below of the box, and the parts that I can find that came from the original lock. Any help on which one will fit, if either, would be incredibly helpful.

Thanks!

i've got a locking console out of my cj-5 that i can give you a once in a lifetime deal on. $50 plus shipping. usually i just give small things away and just ask for shipping but this is a little bit bigger than those.

it was over $100 new, i used it for 3 years so it does have some dirt on it and stuff.

it has 2 inserts, cd tray and a 6 can holder. cup holders in the front and on the back, it has the change organizer and a small sun glass case. and 2 keys

As it happens, I am a locksmith, and the answer can be simple. The size of the housings (diameter) are going to be the same. The two things you need to find are the length of the lock, and the same or matching tailpiece.(bar)
take out the old one and measure from the underside of the lip to the seat of the lock. (not counting the square projection) That is the first step.
Now look at the square projection, there are primerily two sizes of this square. Yours is the larger size, so the mailbox one won't work. You need to find one with the larger square so you can use your tailpiece. I believe
Comp-X makes the correct size. You'll just have to match the square, take it with you when you go shopping. Good Luck Syd

Syd,

Thanks for the helping hand. I'm slower than the rest, so I'll be making heads and tails of the information for the next 45 mins!

One on the left, and cutting a hole on the inside of the box so it could latch into it. It's not bulletproof by any means, but it's a deterrent from just swinging it open.
