Looking at buying a jeep off of craigslist

Hey guys still new to the jeep forum, just put my dodge dakota up for sale on craigslist, hoping it sells fast, check out this jeep for me and tell me what you think, the only problems is the hood prob needs to be repainted and their might be a small rear seal leak. is he asking too much? what you think i should do.

No linky. One thing to make sure to do before buying a jeep, get it up to highway speeds for a while to make sure there's no death wobble.

I tried looking on craigslist for a Jeep when I was looking for a TJ. Everyone I looked at was junk, thats if the person responded to me. Not saying everybody is a scammer on there, just beware of craigslist. I found mine on Ebay for a good price.

If your looking for a TJ, mines up for sale. Its in Escondido California though. Its a 2005 with an Auto locker up front in the dana 30 with a stock Dana 35 rear. Has a 4'' lift with Full traction long arms. Selling price is 10k.
If interested p.m. me

No link but if it's on craigslist then buy local for sure and be wary. I bought a set of newer Wrangler rims and tires for $400 and was a great buy, plus my cousin just sold his '71 Chevy on it for $7500. It's a great site but you have to know what you are looking for before buying or some people out there will ream you.

There's a car lot here in Huntsville Alabama selling a TJ , in orange with diamond plate guards all over plus 6" lift and lots of extras for $8500. Nice looking Jeep but haven't drove it or anything else, this is just what I noticed from the road.

I bought my TJ off craigslist and I love it. I feel like I got a pretty good deal on it too. Suggestions I have is to not just jump into buying it. Make sure you think things over about it and have a mechanic look at it. That goes for any vehicle you buy though. Man have I messed up and bought some shitty cars.

I saw a really nice one in Kerrville yesterday. I'll get you some info tomorrow. The one on CL seems a bit high and a long list of things wrong.

Way too much. 5,000 or less for a jeep like that.

Craigslist is good for me as well. I put an add up looking for a Jeep and that's how i got mine, people who respond aren't scammers and pretty much know what they're selling as far as the people that responded to mine. Take your time though.

If you are looking in Texas there are a bunch of jeeps for sale in austin and Waco area. When I get in 2 weeks I will see what is in the area of Killeen and Waco. If you have not bought one by then. Good Luck.

well i would give that a good looking over. the e brake thing is concerning exp. in a standard. $7k seems a little much for 155k miles to me.. needs a new clear coat on hood
this one just doesnt scream good deal to me. but go have a look and a test drive cant hurt

If you could get it for $6500, you'd still end up with about $7000 in it at least by the time you tag it, title it, and fix it. You can get a CJ for that price and have more Jeep, plus a better investment possibly.

I would say go look at it and try to talk them down. I got just under 1000 bucks taking off the asking price on mine. On a side note don't just jump on the first jeep you go look at. I looked about about 20 or 25 jeeps on craigslist over the span of about a year before I found the right one!

WWWAAAYYY to much. I don't care what kind of mods a jeep has, they don't hold their value and 7k for a 14 possibly 15 year old jeep with that many miles on it is way to much. Not to mention 7k is 2k over KBB value.

"Extremely loud sound system"

"She is uncomfortable with the manual 5 speed"

thought the price was a little high myself, for florida anyway, not sure about texas. too many miles, and needs paint, windshield, rear seal leaking. id be willing to bet a clutch as well, seeing how a 16 yr old was "uncomfortable" with the tranny

Here in NC Jeep prices are all over the place. I have seen the same year swing as much as $4K. At $7K you will end up with $10K in it before you know it and it will still be worth about $5K. A buddy picked up a 97 for $5k and only 45K miles on it. Keep looking. Got my 03 for $9K and all it need was tires, but I haven't stopped there. Found it on Craigslist also, local seller. I also used AutoTrader and E-Bay. See them in front yards all the time and they are not listed anywhere. Good luck

Only thing that scares me is she was not comfortable with a 5 speed. That could mean burning up the clutch / grinding gears lol. Ask if he wouldn't mind meeting up at a garage (that is dependable) and having it looked over. If they say no keep on looking lol cause their probably hiding something.

2,000 more and you could get something a little cleaner like this
Reduced/Trade 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sahara
I would offer 7800 cash?

The book on a 97 in excellent condition is about 5K. That Jeep is not in excellent shape, I think he is asking a bit much. I also would be careful when buying a lifted Wrangler, but that is just me, I would stick to a stock Jeep unless you know they knew what they were doing. You don't want to be chasing problems from an improper lift install.

I agree about buying lifted unless you know a lot yourself. Buying with some mods is a great deal but sometimes it can come back to bite you. Remember too that people are going to raise the price as summer is rolling in, I bet if it was winter time they would have priced that jeep a lot lower.

Not saying it's a bad Jeep, may be a really good one but you never know. Drive it, have it checked and go from there. If you think you are getting a good deal then that is all that matters as well. I paid too much for mine but knew it going in as I had to finance it, but sometimes that's the way it goes. If you have cash then you have options, always. Try also looking further out maybe a little more drive but could be worth it.

i bought my first one in September and this one in February, prices are definitely less in the winter but the selection that summer brings is much wider. i had a hard time even finding wranglers to test drive haha

I am also from San Antonio and was looking at CL since November. That jeep was on there back then. There must be a reason why it isn't selling. Try Austin, they had some good ones.
