looking for a soft top.. any help???

I'm looking for a soft top and not sure where to look. I have a 98 tj with a hard top so I need the whole top, frame, everything except doors, I plan on running my full hard doors. I seen they have best tops in jc whitney for $620... but this seems kinda steep to me. Can anyone tell me a good place to get one? I think I'd like to stick with best top because I can get all the replacement parts in case something happens. Any help?

Unless it says Bestop, the junk in JC Whitney is all made in China and I wouldn't touch it. Thin fabrics, cheap web strapping that disintegrates (personal experience), and generally poor quality all the way around.

Bestop has a brand new complete top and support mechanism kit called the Supertop NX that is just about to get to the dealers any day now. I have a prototype installed on my TJ and it's a very nice kit, it includes literally everything needed including all the hardware and door surrounds. Most stores are showing them in their catalogs and they should be able to start shipping them pretty soon, within days or a week or two near as I have heard.

Check out 4wd.com they are offering a pretty good price for Supertop NX right now. It's only a couple bucks higher than the Supertop. I need one before spring.

I've been looking for about 6 months. The ones that come with hardware are only a couple hundred less than new. Not to mention the ones for sale around here have clear windows.

When I got the new top for my YJ I got it from JC Whitney, they had the best price at the time with free shipping and it was a real Bestop. JC Whitney does carry name brand products.

I've been looking for months for a top on craigslist. They are all $400-$500. But it doesn't make since to me to spend that on a used one when for a little more i can get a new one and most of them don't come with the frames. Will check out the places you guys mentioned. Would like to get it before the warm weather comes!!!

You might consider looking at the Rampage frameless top since money is a concern. They are very reasonably priced, and don't require as much hardware.

The Rampage frameless top is going for about $350. That's a lot cheaper than what I've been looking at. How are they?

There are lots of threads about them... They are good for what they are. More challenging to raise and lower, look great, you'll need hardware that will be extra, iirc, but not too loud and their fans love them...

I recently bought a sailcloth Bestop Replace-A-Top. I am quite content with it! Road noise is drastically reduced compared too stock. So if you do get a Supertop from Bestop my recommendation is to get the sailcloth!

the 2 places i looked were creigs list and amazon-every once in a while they would have specials on new, complete tops(amazon). i found mine on CL, it did take a while but it was a new factory one, complete in the box for 350. now if it would just warm up so i can put it on(only had it on for 2 weeks b4 i had to put the hard top back on(winter). was a 100 mi round trip to pick it up, but worth it.

I went to a local 4x4 shop and they quoted me a price cheaper than 4wd's. Only $50 or so, but I'd much rather support the local business.

How's the road noise? I've never had a soft top so I was just curious. I know it's a jeep but I would still like to be able to talk and drive.

What road noise? lol it's great man, doesn't flap around or anything, and I just love the hatchback look of it by the rear window better than the full square look like the hardtops IMO.

Thats awesome. My khaki top is flawless but I HATE not having tint on the rear windows. The color matches great but I love how Jeeps look with the black tops.

I've worked at a Jeep dealership doing accessories and tint for 10+ years.

I've noticed that some frameless tops seems to be sagging in the rear window area

Without a frame to support the top, that doesn't surprise me in the least.

seems like there should be a light plastic bar or something of sorts up there for that.

Idk I haven't had any problems so far, but then again just had it for a year or so, like to see how it holds up in the future.
