looking for help-new to forum

Hi i have a 06 tj sport, i am going to put some money into it this spring, i want to put a 3" suspension lift in it and out a 305 r70 17 on a 17x9 wheel with 4" backspace. i need help with the fact will these tires fit with that backspace and that size of lift. and another concern i am having, is the stock gear ratio enough for a tire like that, if anyone has input or a gear ratio size they recommend. any help will be great. thanks

I like your ideas, I have no idea about your back space though. Just a thought, I think the Jeep is about the ONLY vehicle that looks the best with a 15'' wheel and 33's tops it off...Now, with that combo, you need 3.75'' backspace...

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

First off, Welcome to WF What gear ratio is in your jeep? and what transmission do you have (standard or auto). Also, have you picked the tire that you want? All tires are alittle different even though they say 305/70R17, they may actually be smaller than that size. With the 4" backspacing on a TJ with that size tire you'll prolly have some rubbing issues while steering to full lock, which is fixable by just adding some washers on the steering stop, resulting in having a slightly larger turning radius. and if you do some hard wheeling off road you'll prolly want to add a 1.25" Body Lift to that to keep from stuffing the tires up against fenders. More than likely you'll wish for a gear change.

Do you realize the cost difference in 33x12.50x15 tires/wheels as apposed to 305/70R17 tires/wheels? It's pretty hefty price hike, the 305/70R17 is a 33.5" to 34" tire depending on what tire make and model you go with. In most cases it's $100 more a tire, plus the added wheel cost.

Last year, I bought my 33x12.50x15" Goodyear Duratrac tires mounted/balanced on new 15x8" Dick Cepek DC2 wheels (3.65 backspacing- no rubbing) for a total of $1326- shipped to the house. (tire warranty included in that price)

you most likely have 3.73s now. that is going to be rough with 33s no matter what transmission you have. definitely cheaper to stay with 15 inch wheels. no matter what size wheel you go with your better off with 8 inch width

I have 3.07 gears and the 3spd auto, when I went to larger tires I didn't have the power loss that some people have. My fuel milage went down from 19mpg to 16mpg. But the new tires I went with are very light compared to most, and the DC2 wheels are lighter than the old Gambler that they replaced.
