Question Looking to buy a 1997 TJ

Thank you in advance for your help. I'm new to the site, but wanted to ask a few questions regarding the jeep I'm looking at purchasing. Its a 97' 6 cyl. 5 speed, with 150K on it. The guy said it runs great, the only problem he mentioned is it sometimes pops out of first gear due to bad cyncros. Is this a major problem and what are some things I should look for. He's asking 5200 for it which I know is on the high side, so what you all pay if everything else checked out good? thanks again

What's the rest of it like? Does it have a tall body lift? Transfer case drop? Suspension lift? What's the underside look like, as in has it been abused offroad? How's the engine run otherwise?

I would ask the same questions as Jerry. It may be worth the asking price depending on the upgrades and what kind of shape it's in.

I asked a couple of those questions because it's possible a certain combination of them can cause the tranny to pop out of 1st gear.

all in all its pretty clean. Has a 2" suspension lift with 31's. The body and interior is in pretty good shape. the underside is not bad at all. He put a transfer case drop on it. The motor seems to run smooth. How hard is it to fix the tranny if that's what the problem ends up being? thanks
