Looking to purchase a TJ, anything to look out for?

Thanks in advance for any help...

I'm trying to hunt down an 05 06 Rubicon and most any of the ones I find in my price range have 100k to 130k on the OD. The milage wories me but I've heard good things about these just want to see if anyone has any insite on these.

Also looking at Manual trans vs Auto unless one comes along with an auto and the price is right....I am a mechanic (forgot to mention in introduction) but deal with diesel tractors not auto...

Also have heard Rubicons only have black interior True/faulse
I have seen on here the 6th didgit in the vin is allways a 6 True/fause
Pro/cons on the 05 06 years I'd like to stay in the 4.0 years

I'm not looking for perfect but reliable and most the aftermarket (lift, tire, winch ext.) to be done

Cheers Ellis

low mile 05 and 06's are out there I got mine last year with 57K miles
but the 4.0's are still strong at the 100K miles

manual I heard is better on the 05-06's as the auto trans is a different version vs the previous models...

05 and 06 4.0's have the newer (worse) opda so you would have to keep an eye on it or change it.

Where do you live? If in Northeast, look out for flood vehicles! Victims of Sandy....lot of them out there!

Look for rust, hacked up wiring, hidden rust, slipping auto trans, bad clutch, seeping around seals in engine bay, radiator seeping, ask for both diff covers to be pulled to inspect gears, any tub lines not even, doors that don't shut right that indicate tub damage, and for Rubicon wanna be's.

Rubicons could get the Khaki interior as well as the black, although I have only seen one TJ Rubicon with a Khaki interior.

Sixth digit in VIN is a 6 for Rubicon.

All TJ Rubi's are 4.0L.

Where are you? There is a decent 2006 Rubi in north central CT right now at Lee's Auto Ranch, google them it is on their website. Be prepared for sticker shock.
