Looking to upgrade suspension, just shocks or more?

I've got a 2000 Jeep Wrangler sport with mostly original parts on it. The suspension definitely took a hit the last few years. It went stiff on me. Then, went soft (insert joke here). Anyways, I'm not a super tech or anything, and was wondering if I can replace just the shocks. Or, should I replace the shocks and springs, or anything else that could help. I guess, the overall question, is it ok to just replace shocks or is there more to getting back better suspension than just shocks? And, if I replace the shocks only, will that give me back a better ride?

Yes new shocks should help. But are you looking to keep it stock or lift?

OME 2.5" coils and Nitro Shocks, Metalcloak front track bar, JKS Quick discos, 33x12.50 Goodyear MTR's w/Kevlar, 15x8 Pacer wheels, thedirtworx rear tire carrier

I am gonna jump in on this thread because I am basically in the same boat as Henry. I have a '97 with the original suspension and personally I would like to keep it stock. I did the suspension test that most people recommend. Push down on it hard twice and it bounced 4 or 5 times before settling. I was planning on replacing the shocks and was debating on the springs. Not sure if there is anything else I should do.

I was looking at the KYB Gas-A -Just for the front and back on the shocks. Seems like a good combo of quality and value.
