Looks like i really did it

i went wheeling last weekend to go get my friends car pulled out (his is still there) and got my wrangler stuck on top of a mountain and had to leave it for a week.we came to a clearing and i slid on to a frozen puddle and it broke through and we couldnt get it out. we broke the ice up with sledgehammers and tried to pull it out with a cherokee. we finally got it out with a comealong and it wouldnt start so we left it, well lo and behold it snows we cannot get back to it untill the following weekend. long story short i finally got it running enough to get it down the mountain and get it towed to the repair shop well i just got off the phone with the repair shop and the engine is toast. it cracked the block by sitting in the puddle. so looks like im going to have to replace the engine. here are some pictures

i didnt start out in that attire lol. your skin drys alot quicker than jeans will and we had sleeping bags to wrap up in after we called it quits to warm out body temperature up. Thats the coldest i think i have ever been in my entire life. (i'm the guy digging at the jeep my other friend is behind the windshield in the yellow jacket. the guy just standing there. he just stood there complaining about how cold it was)

I would not have been able to sleep that whole week knowing my Jeep was stuck all alone on top of a mountain. Sucks about the engine but at least you didn't get eaten by a bear!

it was one of the longest weeks of my life. my friends were great support. they all know how much i love that car and for me to not have it is really weird. but for the moment i have my old cherokee from highschool (really glad i decided to keep it and give it to my younger brother when he turns 16)

Now that's a story to remember and tell your grand kids someday.

Look at the bright side, next time something bad happens, you can just say, "it isn't as bad as the time it was stuck on top of a mountain for a week in freezing weather."

woah.... wow. I thought I was gonna have to ditch my jeep on a mountain in 11 inches of snow and a steep narrow rocky trail last week when it snowed in PA. Fortunately, it grabbed traction and I pulled it out of there... I was nervous! This is the first winter for offroading and I am new to jeeps entirely. Hope it all works out, but at least you are ok and there are more jeeps and parts out there! good luck!

Too bad about the Jeep but ya gotta admit you now have a great story to tell your kids some day. That pic of you barefoot and wearing board shorts while standing in icy water with big chunks of ice surrounding your ankles is priceless.

haha very nice. i do have a great story to go along with it. A very expensive story. the moral of the story is well i cant quite put my finger on it right now. it is a very good thing that noone got hurt and the jeep is fixable and i get to keep it. just sucks that ive only had it 6 months and i did this to it.

Stop banging your head, thats just a product of what can happen when you leave the pavement. Jeeps make memories, most are great but some can be bad. I've had my share of the bad but I can laugh about them now, ok not all of them, but some. Just consider the cost of the repairs a life lesson learned the hard way, it will make you better in the future! Just thinking about it, I sure have paid a lot of $ over the years to still be making the same mistakes!

Is the engine the only thing that is toast? If so, I would consider an ATK crate engine. I have one from when I wrecked my Jeep. It has been running strong for the last 110K miles. Quadratec sells them. Or you could find a used one for much less.

Man that sucks. I feel you on that as I went offroading Christmas Eve and got stuck. I was "exploring" in a sub-division that never got built and a puddle i guess had frozen and the passenger side cracked and i got stuck for an hour. So not only was I worried I was gonna have to leave her, but my mom kept calling waiting to have Christmas diner

Note to self, never try to offroad with street tread tires

Best of wishes on the rebirth of your rig

i feel your pain man, only a few months after i bought my jeep i got stuck alone. Had to wait 4 and half hours for a buddies dad and friend to come yank me out. Ended up trashing my trans and needed to replace it. Its all a learning experience. wish i had pics to go with my story instead from now on when i pass the spot on the trail i got stuck on i cant help but stop and just think to myself, "shoulda gone left ya dummy"

i smell a stroker or v8 in your future gotta keep your hopes up

Throw a stroked in it man lol. Bug wow, I guess I got lucky. My jeep popped out of gear, rolled down my driveway and hit a stump lol. Rear corner panel got crunched only a month and a half after I got it. Got to bondo it still. I was told to tell people that I was pulling a hummer out and he hit me

Its not the same as a Chad---k, he fessed up to it, and hasn't run away from the forum yet.

OP: Sorry about the jeep, here's hoping the insurance company comes through for ya.

Haha thank you for the Chad---k Reference, i was wondering how long it was going to be before someone brought that up. and im not leaving that easy. my dad called and said that the agent should be calling me tomorrow. They didnt sound like it was going to be a total loss but if the insurance company fixes it they will put another 4.0L in it so looks like i wont be doing a stroker (i did see some 4.0L stroker motors online) going to the repair shop in the morning to get my personal stuff out of it (garage door opener, parking decal) but looks like the fender and fog lights are going to be replaced as well.

You'd be surprised how well jeeps hold their value. I did $9600 worth of damage to my jeep when a deer jumped out in front of me last year, the insurance company covered it completely.
