Loose cable

I was walking up my driveway last night and i noticed something hanging down from the bottom of my wrangler and thought it was just a branch at first because i had just gotten home from riding some trails. but when i climbed under i notice it was some sort of cable or hose. From what i see it starts about in the middle and ends around the oil filter. Heres a pic of what it looks like. Any ideas?

That is just a vent hose, likely from the transfer case from where you say it is coming from. If it is coming from the transfer case, that hose is supposed to be attached to the fire wall so it is up high and water can't enter into it.

I think Jerry's right. I'll go out and look at mine, but I believe that if you look up (from where you are holding the hose in your photo) you will find a clip that holds the end.

However, since you just got back from a ride, the clip may have broken off. If your OCD is as bad or worse than mine, buy a new one, or you can find a secure place up and out of the way to zip tie it.

Just ensure you leave some slack in there for flex or you could part the vent hose or worse, rip off whatever you zip tie to...

I'll post a pic if I can find my location and get my camera in there later today.

Thanks for the help guys. For now i just zip tied it to something secure and away from the bottom. I guess i'll just keep an eye on it for now until i find out where it's really supposed to be.

Ok, sorry it took me so long, had to wait for the kid and the 2000 sport to get home.

That line (in your case, used) to run from the xfer case, along the transmission on the passenger side then up onto the top of the tranmission between the engine and firewall and is just sitting there. Sorry I can't get a picture, camera won't focus with all the crap in the way.

You are fine if it is up out of the muck and secure.
