I tried taking of the back tire off for the first time since I bought my 04 Sahara and I busted two sockets that I used with a 1/2" breaker bar. I was able to get four of the lug nuts off but that last one would not budge. I think they were spark plug sockets and they just cracked. I then decided to go the old fashion route and use the tire iron that was in under the passenger seat. I guess the person I bought it from just threw one under the seat because it didn't fit. The head was too big and wouldn't go in enough to grab a lug nut. I've researched that the lug nuts are 1/2-20 but what does that mean...20mm socket? I've been looking online but I can't find a tire iron that will fit. Any suggestions? I know this seams so simple, but all I see is 19mm and 21mm size tire irons.
Thanks
Where did you get that? I would like to get something smaller that will fit under the seat but if that is all I can find that's what I will have to get.
Get a 3/8ths breaker bar. Find a shorter one then it fits dang near anywhere and uses the sockets in your everyday tool bag. Just get a deep wall socket for your lug nuts.
If you reinstall the other four lug nuts and somewhat overtighten them, you might take some pressure off the problem nut and make it easer to break loose.
I was going to rotate my tires a few months ago. I got my air gun out and hit the lugs. Nothing! I wound up using the factory lug wrench and a long piece of pipe. I bent the lug wrench but I got the job done. I swear they just put the damn lug nuts on so tight so that you have to bring them back to them to get rotated.
Lug nuts should be installed dry and always torqued with a torque wrench. They are not expensive.
