Arrow Manual Trans Fluid Change?

The owners manual of my 2004 says the fluid installed in the trans at the factory is sufficient enough for the life of the vehicle?!? Im gonna change it out. Stupid question for you, are there filters that need to be changed when I do the fluid in the trans? Seems there should be...if so, how many? and where are they? The owners manual is no help Thanks

doubt there's a fitler... i'm pretty sure all you need to do is loosen then fill plug, remove the drain plug, drain everything out, replace the drain plug, and use a pump bottle or something to add the new fluid into the tranny

Okedoke. The redline fluid seems to be pretty popular round this site - ill go with it. Thanks for the info.

I'd advise going with factory oils. Some after market oils cause a lot more problems then they cure.

I actually did go with the Mopar fluid...HOLY EXPENSIVE!!! I hate the stealership...good lord!

How much was it? I spent $12 a qt on Redline and I don't see any difference... 2nd gear grinds like hell when it's cold and 4th gear is the same as before- smooth sometimes, resistant to engage every other shift or so.

Your '99 was the last year jeep used the AX15 and they discontinued the original Mopar fluid for that tranny. The dealer now recommends Mopar 10w30 motor oil for the AX15, which is fine. Or any 10w30 motor oil, preferably synthetic. The Redline is an excellent fluid for your tranny, it's what I use. You may have other issues. I think the Redline is the best stuff out there for the AX15.

Thanks, yeah my 05 LJ is my baby and my 99 TJ is my project trail rig.( i need to update my profile) I may have issues with the tranny among other things but it seems solid, I take it to neutral now when shifting to 2nd instead of throwing it straight back and hearing it grind and I let it mesh in to gear.

Another vote for Redline if it matters at this point. Stay away from Pennzoil Syncromesh!

Royal Purple makes another very good tranny fluid. I am thinking it was called syncromesh as well but cannot remember.

I used what the manual called for and got synchro whine. THEN I read WRANGLER FORUM and drained out the GL5 75W-90 and poured in 10w 30 synthetic : NO WHINE.

The stealership sold a quart for $20...pulled out 3 Mopar manual trans fluid quartz, the bottles say for NV3500 i believe...dusty as hell too, ha dont think they use it too often

i just bought some amsoil synchromesh for ~$9 a quart from a jeepforum member

meets the chrysler ms-9224 spec too
