Marine cd player or not?

M considering picking up this radio from my local bestbuy. I'm very knowledgeable on car audio and can do all installs my self. I currently have a pioneer Deh-2400 now and I think from the often nights of dew and a occasional getting caught in the rain has made my volume control act up all the time.yes it works but sucks. It's a fold down also. I'm looking for a detachable face. Has anybody got likes and dislikes on marine radios. Here's the link

All in personal preference/use. If you expose the interior to moisture often, then maybe a marine unit is good for you.. I don't plan on allowing much moisture in so I got a regular head unit.

Thanks for the reply going from marine to just a standard deck as in price is really no difference. So I'm thinking for just the added protection it's no lose. Is there any down falls to marine radios? And what is the extra protection that a marine radio has?

The Marine radios have less bell's and whistles. The manufacturer offset the costs by putting less in them. I was going to go Marine Grade but looking at the current inventory out there, they seem bleak.

The big thing to remember is to be sure that the screen is easy to see in high light conditions. Like your top off and the sun beating down. It bleaches out most LCD's.

Great info I just sold my dodge magnum rt with two kicker l7 12's and 4 tvs and lamborgini doors and all the other crap I installed. And now that I'm getting older I sit back and tell myself all that was fun but now I'm growing up and just want a nice clean stereo and a basic set up. As for sound quality do you think it's going to make a difference or just as for control functions? I'm considering doing the red dash light mod also, so I would really like a radio I change to red also... It's not a deal breaker though.

I have a Pioneer marine am/fm/cd/AUX/USB radio in my bass boat...no issues. I don't purposely wash it down with water, however I've had zero problems with it...also bought it at best buy. I have a factory AM/FM/CD/ AUX radio on my Harley that is supposed to be a marine grade unit...it's bet wet more times than the boat radio.

What ever you get..buy a unit with a USB connection if you have a smart phone or Ipod you can tether it via a USB cable to listen to "your" music. , that and a 1/8" pin connection for AUX unit add ons like XM radio's....I have that on both boar and Harley and listen to XM with a portable head unit.

I have been caught in the rain a few time and now the forward button doesn't always work and some times the preset buttons go random every once in a while. Like I press 2 and it puts on station 4. Next radio I get will be marine. Though I have HD and Bluetooth in my radio. Not enough HD stations but I use the Bluetooth all the time as it auto connects to my phone and I can also stream music to the radio.

There are some radios that you can change the color of the LED's.

As for the extra protection offered, marine units generally have sealed circuit boards and a more water tight casing/buttons..

Do not bother getting a Marine stereo. What the company does is take a normal stereo unit and put a thin layer of conformal coating over the surface of the circuit board. Switches and control knobs cannot be conformal coated. It really will not help unless you run your Jeep in salt water. Oh yea just in case. Conformal coating is just a thin layer, .005", of material like urethane clear coating.

But the head unit that is in the elements is more durable. It can get splashed on, etc and still work. So if your jeep is mostly topless, get a marine grade.
