Maximum re-gearing for D30/35?

Is there such a thing as a maximum gear ratio for an axle? Understood that at some point if you're thinking about 4.88's, 5.13's, or higher maybe you should be thinking about a beefier axle.

I've decided to get the most out of my stock 30/35, running 33's (max 35's), putting an Aussie locker in the front, and re-gearing (currently 3.73's). Do 4.10's seem like a good target for 33's and 4.56's for 35's?

From what I've read it wouldn't hurt to upgrade my axle shafts as well?

Thanks!

The D30 is limited to 4.88 which is what most here recommend for 33" tires and the 4 speed auto. Mine is in the shop now getting 4.88s. There was discussion with the folks at the shop as to whether that was going to be too low. I will find out soon. My RPM's are/were only 2000 at 70 mph with 32's and 3.73 gears.

I don't think it would be worth the investment to go from 3.73 to 4.10. Not that much difference.

I'm running a 5 spd 4 cyl with 4.10s. It sucks, so don't upgrade to 4.10s. It cost to much not to go lower. I'm about to gear to 4.88s also.

$1200 or so depending on your shop. That's for both axles.

Too low meaning maybe you should have gone 4.56's?

Yes. Everyone here that runs this combination of 33's, 4.88's and the 42RLE seems to be happy with it though.
