Maximum tongue weight?

What is a max tongue weight on a basic Wrangler? I find it has a 2,000 pound towing capacity but nothing about tongue weight. Is the basic radiator enough to tow with?

Thanks.

I think it's 200 lbs. Lots of times the tongue weight is 10% of tow weight.

Yep, the radiator is fine no more than you can tow.

If you are towing 2,000 lbs. then 200 lb tongue weight is minimum and 300 lbs. is maximum, the way I read it in my '02 manual. So max. tongue weight would be 300 lbs. when towing max. trailer weight of 2,000 lbs. Manual says;

Trailer Towing -- Hitches

"With a Class 1 Hitch, your vehicle can be equipped to tow trailers not exceeding a Gross Trailer Weight {GTW) of 907 kg (2,000 lbs.). Tongue weight must be equal to at least 10% of GTW, but no more that 15% of GTW."

I have a class 2 Hidden Hitch on my Sahara and I towed a 18 ft. ski boat to my beach house and back, 80 miles one way, with no problems.

Funny thing, when I moved to Texas I towed the Jeep behind my 34 ft. class A motorhome. I did not have a trailer brake system hooked up to my jeep. The motorhome was just under 15,000 lbs. and I would of been illegal in most states. What does a Jeep weigh? Around 3,000 lbs. I'm guessing. I can tow 2,000 lbs behind 3,000 lbs without trailer brakes and be legal, but if I'm towing with the motorhome, I can't tow 3,000 lbs. behind 15,000 lbs. without trailer brakes? Crazy laws.

I'm more worried about putting a Carryall on it and how much I could put in the Carryall.

So long as you stick to a maximum combined weight of 2,000 for the trailer and cargo, and stay within the tongue weight requirements of 10-15% of whatever that weight is, you'll be fine. The OE radiator is good to go with that too. Make sure to have no less than the minimum 10% tongue weight on the hitch ball or the trailer will sway.

I am curious about the tongue weight capabilities on my 2009 Wrangler. I have a 260 pound motorcycle that I want to carry using a hitch mounted carrier. I just don't want to damaged something or worse drop my bike. Any help would be great. Thank you.

I carried my son's small trail motorcycle on a receiver hitch a few times & never again. The weight wasn't so much the problem as was getting it up onto the mount & secure enough so I wasn't worried about it breaking loose. Due to the spare tire getting in the way in the rear, I used the hitch on my front bumper. It worked but it wasn't long before I bought a small cheap trailer from Harbor Freight to take his motorcycle out to the desert.
