4500 lbs. of winching capacity, as the one you are looking at has, is not even close to being strong enough for offroad use. For a Wrangler, you want a winch that has anywhere from 8,000 to about 9,500 lbs. of capacity. For offroading, the winch should have roughly 2x the capacity of the vehicle's weight it will be on and most Wranglers are close to 4,000 lbs. The 1.5X factor often used leans more torwards on-road use. My Wrangler weighs slightly over 4,000 lbs. and my Warn 9.5xp winch has 9,500 lbs. of winching capacity.

X2. I am fairly new to this forum but Jerry knows his stuff. I have read many of his replies and they are spot on. I run a warn 8000 on my wrangler. I think they are going for around 400 bucks right now if not a little cheaper. And I know I have seen the 8000 lbs mile marker for under 400 bucks. Don't forget to get a good strap, not some cheap one and don't get one with hooks on it. Also a block and some shackles

Also remember that the stated pull weight is for the FIRST layer of cable around the drum only; it drops off quickly for the 2nd through 4th layers. Unless you spool out to a tree 100 feet away, you are working on the upper layers of cable.

Jerry said his weighed a little over 4k and your dads is 3780.. My math has that at 220lbs heavier.. Not 900

I'm sure my 05 LJ Rubi with steel bumpers, wheels and 33" tires and the equipment I carry weighs more then 4000 lbs. I have a MM 12,000 lb winch.

I can't help what you say your dad's Rubicon on 33" tires weighs. My 97 tj with 35" tires was right at 4200 lbs. on my local truck scale though my present 04 Rubicon with 35" tires probly weighs a bit less with its aluminum instead of steel armor. It is very common and easy for modified TJs to exceed 4000 lbs.

Looking at the sellers other items for sale... it looks like that may be an ATV winch? although 4500 lbs is overkill for that.. Dunno?
