mirror needed?

i was under the impression to run a jeep legaly without doors we needed to have the brackets to relocate the mirrors or run some other mirrors at the windshield brackets, etc. i see people int heir jeeps all the time withour mirrors with their doors off. isnt this illegal?

I have gotten a fine in MD for it.

www.4x4xplor.com has a write up on a mirror kit. I made mine for like 10 bucks a side, took my 10 minutes, and I think it looks much better than the other brands. As much as I dont like chrome on a Jeep, the mirrors really do blend in with the paint, and the square mirror heads just look cool. Not to mention, they are cheap, so if I damage them offroad, I can just go to pepboys and get a replacement part for a couple bucks...

Honestly, it was two years ago in my 97. I was meeting a couple friends with sports cars in a parking lot, and got a little mouthy with a cop when he gave me a front tag ticket (told him the dealer had it ordered..had temp tags still inside the jeep unexpired..). He wasnt happy that I didnt bow down and kiss his nuts, and wrote the door ticket. I believe they were both $50.

Now, I have gotten pulled over with no mirrors and had nothing said, and I have had cops tell me doorless was illegal with mirrors on.

My advice is just to put mirrors on, so atleast your "attempting" to obey a bullshit buerocratic law.

BTW, remove your "truck nutz" at the border, a politician got offended and is trying to ban them...

doorless illegal with mirrors on? that doesnt sound accurate to me. but i have been thinking, if you were required to have mirrors when doors off why would jeep put the mirrors on the doors. i think aslong as your not a dick to a cop you wont get a ticket. if i pull the old military id with the license trick and say really? i didnt know i couldnt do that, i doubt i will get a ticket. but i would like to have the mirrors so i can see when changing lanes.

Howard County cop told me that. Other Jeeps have been told that before.

It says in the Jeep manual and video that you need to check local laws before removing the doors.

But, she is right. Call MD state trooper non emergancy, and ask. Most of them dont know their azz from a hole in the wall, but ask anyway. Might also want to ask what the fine is.

I don't recommend asking a trooper just for that reason - you're right - they usually don't know and a ticket can be given subjectively. Look at the actual laws, realizing they are up for interpretation, but at least you can argue a ticket on that than hearsay or possible inaccurate info from law inforcment.

I'm trying to see what I can find online......I'll link it if I locate any thing helpful ( darn Maryland, this was easy for NJ )

In Texas you must have a rear-view mirror to pass inspection. It makes no mention of placment.

MD has some nasty enforcement practices. I almost got bagged by a state trooper driving a cobra with blacked out windows on some bumbly county road going to NC. I was driving my Lincoln Mark VIII and he pulled up to me on a light and started revving his motor to get me to race.

I heard of these butt wads way before I went down there so I wasn't going for it. About 10 miles down the road he had a Mustang from NY pulled over on the side.

I agree, MD is the worst in my book.

Oh my god, dont get me started on them......My friend got out of a ticket from the cobra because he beat him in his modified bmw 318....

Grr I could go on and on about this state.. but what really pulls my whiskers is:

Md is, for the most part, a farming state. Good soil, good crops. Now its also below the mason dixin line, making it "southern." Besides the fact that the BALL-LESS AZZ HATS joined the union and not the confederacy...WHY IS THERE ZERO SWEET TEA IN MD BESIDES MC DONALDS, AND WHY DO I HAVE TO GO ALL OVER THE STATE FOR SOME COUNTRY FRIED STEAK?!?!

Grrrr..............Guess I better tell the gf to make more tea........:chair:

At least in MD you have excellent grits. I can't get them up here to save my life.
(I thought the war was over, no?)

You need to move to PA... Unless there is a specific reason you should not carry, anyone can get a permit.

Sorry to hijack this thread....

I'm running outlaw today...I took the doors off and no mirrors. (the thought-crime police are looking for me now)

yeah i think this has become a general discussion thread anyway. so its cool, i decided not to run the tj without mirrors, just because it would suck for me not having them to see. but getting back to the gun thing, i will not get one in md unless someone has threatened my life and it has been documented by police or i transport large sums of money and in which case i would need deposit slips to prove it. stupid democrats, lol. as far the the .30 cal goes, it would so be a .50
