Moab Jeep Safari 2010

Anybody heading to the Moab Jeep Safari this year? I am probably going down for the day as I did not schedule a place to stay 12 months ago. It is nice to be so close.

moab

What trails are you looking at doing? I have done a ton of work to the jeep lately and am itching to get out.

If any...I would only do something very easy. I have never wheeled before and would want to start slow, I am running 35 inch tires with dana 35/30 and dont want to break an axle, and I have a 3000 mile round trip and am already pushing it financially just with gas.

I have actually been wanting to go to moab before I got my jeep to go mountain bikeing. I figure since I am into jeeps now I can kill two birds with one stone and go for the easter safari, spend a day bikeing, and spend a day jeeping.

I would be open for any ideas on good beginner trails, or if anybody just wants to meet up out there and hang out and have a beer.

Where in iowa are you? Just curious because i used to live in minnesota. If you can, pick up an extra rear axle shaft because if you do need 1, you will pay a premium for it in moab during the safari. Easy trails would be the first half of kane creek, maybe fins and things, chicken corners. If you have some extra cash, bring it. There can be some really awsome deals to be had at the vendor show.

My favorite trail for both scenery and technical crawling would have to be Poison Spider. It is long if you run the whole trail, like 40 miles or something. It goes between open sand to lots of technical stuff. Don't worry though on that trail because almost everything has an easier route if you do not feel comfortable on the tougher stuff. 90% of the trails I ran with 31" tires and about a 4" lift on my old Cherokee. Most of the stuff is about how well you drive and not how capable your Jeep is, but you must have at least 31" tires and a small lift or you will get body damage. If you go during the week you will find more hard core Jeepers and the weekend turns into a big party. There are lots of good books on the trails. Hells revenge is one of my favorites, but the tail end of it is very hairy and you most likely can't make it on 31's without some body damage. I usually enter the way I come out on Hells Revenge because once you are in there you have a million places to play. Let me know if you have any questions. If you do go you must at least watch some going up the Moab rim trail. Very hairy especially around the devil's crack. You pretty much need lockers on that one.
