Mobile Device mount

I'd like a way to mount my phone (iPhone) near my dash to be able to plug my aux cord into the radio and still have it visible for navigation or phone calls.

I stumbled upon this

it looks promising but i was hoping someone may have had experience with it. I also need a good phone cradle to pair with this, and would hope some of you have experience with a good cradle, even if it was with a different mount.

I'm open to any ideas but i'd rather not drill the dash.

I have this one

Slides into the CD slot. It does the job well

I fabricated my own bracket that mounts to the existing screws under the windshield defrost panel, then I bolted my phone holder to the bracket. It has been ultra sturdy especially bouncing around off road.

Dextreme, that sounds like a good idea using existing hardware to get something done. Do you have pics or is it top secret?

402captain - i'd still like to be able to use my CD player...

I combined two existing products and made a custom mount.

I use a RAM Mounting Systems, Inc. for my GPS and have never had the mount separate from the windshield despite the jarring and bumps from wheeling. I am a fan of the Ram system.

Here is a pic. Under the panel there are couple of screws to mount a bracket to.

ChasUGC - what is that piece holding the mount in your dash? Is it the same as RDaniel posted? I like how you integrated the cord into the mount...

RDaniel - that looks promising. Drilling require but its behind the dash bezel so thats pretty harmless...

Dextreme - that looks nice and funcitonal. I may pop that defrost trim piece off and see what it looks like under there and try to go that route. Thanks for the idea.

I've got the same one that RDaniel has, and it was a breeze to put on...works real good, too. I'm using it to hold my XM radio, and it does the job.

I had a Tom-Tom windshield mount that would not stick anymore but I really liked the holder for the device so I removed the little rubber thing in the dash tray (I never use it). Drilled two holes in the mount and did this. Works great while bouncing on a trail and I can remove it and cover the holes with the little rubber tray if I get rid of it.

I have tried several methods suggested and this is the only one that has held up offroad (everything else eventually hits the floor). All it takes is flat steel that thick enough (16 gauge?) to be sturdy, but can be bent/formed with a hammer to get it how you want it. Then bolt whatever phone mount you have to it.

The piece on the dash is the Bracketron cell phone holder. I saw it being used by Jeeper's here. It secures to the housing behind the console plate, so there are no visible holes. I just cut the face off and attached a Arkon Gooseneck to it. I then wires the cords, Aux and USB, from behind and through the Arkon Flex covering so they don't hang in the way. I didn't want to reach across the dash, or look down and take my eyes off the road. All the hardware needed came with the Arkon.

Bracketron is here.

I didn't need the Bracketron Holder, but it is here.

The Arkon with Holder is here.
