Modifications to the ash tray

Not being a smoker and with an ashtray that is somewhat hard to even keep spare change or trash in, what are some cool mods that can be easily done to make this space more useful?

My TJ is an ashtray delete model. It did not come with an ashtray, and the dash just has a flat spot where the ashtray would normally be.
Perfect spot for my ARB switches.

Is there a kit for an ashtray delete available?

Homemade delete.

Flat piece of steel, with a bend to match the contour, a few holes, some paint - custom switch panel.

My ashtray is full of change, and the rattling drives me up the wall. Anyone know how I can fix it? Plasti-Dip maybe?

That's brilliant!!! Plasti-dip the change! I bet if you put 10 coats on each coin they won't rattle a bit!

Exactly what I was thinking. I actually took the change out of the ashtray and the rattle is gone, but I can't for the life of me find a place to put it.

Cup holder, but you will lose a drink carrying space

In reality though, aren't you just transferring the rattling. Then he will have to plasti-dip his cup holder.

I was going to plasti-dip the coins themselves.

I found a coin slot in mine. It has some sort of a lever (probably to get it back out) that has: 2H, 4H, N, and 4L on it. I checked already and there's room for at least $30 in change.

Yup, the hairs make sure the coins are clean I reckon.

Seriously though, I'm not sure what I'll use that space for but I don't have a need for it yet so an unused ashtray is what it'll be until I need it for something else.

Seriously, my ash tray is full of change, and it does rattle once in a while. And when it does, it bugs me. I *HATE* squeaks and rattles.

It must be common with the name I can't stand when I have a rattle or squeak. Drives me crazy!!

You guys joke about plasti dipping the change in the ash tray, but when I bought my tj, the PO did not clean out the jeep and had a ton of change in the ash tray, he had wrapped every single coin with scotch tape and it did not rattle at all. Between the ash tray and what had bounced up behind the dash I got almost 10 bucks in change, but the tape is a pain to get off

i wish i could figure out something to do. i don't have an ashtray, just a hole. no need for extra switches so adding a plate would look silly. $30+ bucks for a ashtray.....i'm keeping the blank spot.
