Lightbulb Moral Dilemma

I guess I have been a good boy so far this year. My lovely wife has informed me of what my Christmas present will be.

I have been talking with her forever and a day about what I want to do to my TJ. My dream for the TJ is engine upgrade like a crate 318, 6" lift, 35's, Lockers. I know I'll have to regear/ new axles, don't know if the tranny will take it either. I got the green light for whatever it is I want.

OR,

She told me I could get a new JKU and Pimp the living snot out of it, because it's a tad hard to fit everyone in the TJ.

Hence my moral dilemma

This decision is a few months away, I am just putting it out there to see what you guys and gals think might be the best thing to do.

Any Ideas??

My wife is the best

Well I just recently moved from a TJ to the JK four door for the extra room and I can't complain live having the extra space to store passengers and more then enough room for anything I want to haul inside it. It's also a comfortable ride compared to the TJ with a much nicer interior. If it was me I'm moving to the jk and not looking back for a second.

I own a TJ Rubicon and love the thing, BUT if presented this opportunity I would probably make the switch. The Unlimited's look awesome with a nice lift and bigger tire on them. They have a nicer interior. My dad likes his alot. I would suggest the Unlimited Rubicon if she will let ya.

Hey man...you got any kids or plan on kids? If not then i say nothin better than the lifted and loaded TJs even though not as nice on inside but i favor the rougher look....but hey....imma a southerner. But if you are lookin at kids then def switch but lift that JKU too for sure. You got a cool wife by the sounds of it...green light!! Haha peace

I've been thinking about getting one - in addition to my TJ Rubi.

The only problem is - they look too much like a Hummer!

Does this mean that you have to maintain your "good boy" behavior for another 10 months? Good Luck with that. Kinda sounds like a dangling carrot to me.

Yes, exactly. I'm leaning pretty heavy now to the JKU, as far as my TJ goes That could be a father-son thing to fix up for him when he turn 16 and we could be a jeep wheelin happy family

Also in 2012 traction control and other such safety nannies will be standard on every vehicle although it's not like they haven't already put it in most vehicles. Government mandated to keep you safe lol. From what I understand you might not be able to override it either.

WEAK. SCHOOL.

traction control; especially Chrysler/Fiat product traction control; is total garbage. Just had a 2010 JGC Laredo for a rental all last week in the mountains....SUCK SUCK SUCK. "4x4" my arse. Somehow it had every single bad quality of Fwd, Rwd, and Awd all in one package. And none of the good ones.
I thought it was broke at first. No wonder the italians bought 'em out so cheap.

Think I just threw up in my mouth a little...

Yeah the Laredos are more of an AWD and not really a 4wd. My sister's doesn't even have low lock. But once again it is more AWD than a 4wd.

Oops I missed one, Stability Control will also be standard in 2012. I did a little more digging and found that the NHTSA is proposing backup cameras become standard on all vehicles by 2014 below 10,000 lbs. Whether I believe they will or not... ehhhh only time will tell.

Original 4-door? CJ 7 was 2 doors. JKu is the first wrangler or wrangler predecessor (cj) with 4 doors. You could be thinking of a grand wagoneer?

To the OP. The new JKu will feel a little less jeepy I drove all the engine trans combos before getting my LJ and didn't love them but the extra room is awesome. If I were in your situation I'd wait for the new engine or get the rubicon. The 4.10 rear end helps with the lack of peppiness, or low end torque, the 4.0 and its predecessors provided for 40 years. My dad has a 76 CJ 5 and it has more low end torque than a new JK with the 3.73 rear end and an auto. The 6-speed helps a little also.

However a jeep is not a racecar so pep may not matter and you might not care. Just my opinion on your amazing situation. Good luck.

Lol about throwing up in your mouth about the Fiat thing. I agree 100%. Oh well. I guess I'll just keep my LJ forever.
