Mounting rubicon rock rails on 99 tj

Hi all,
First off I know what everyone is saying about the rubicon rock rails, and all I have to say it what's stronger plastic or aluminum?

Has anyone mounted these before, I know I need to drill some holes and found instruction, but what size hardware and what type did you use, also the holes on the top where it mounts under the door are not drilled, is this normal? Any Positive input will be great, thanks

Yeah.... I got some freebies off a Rubi LJ and I cut them down to size ( from the rear ) which lined up all the junk underneath.

Here is my writeup....

Here is what I started with...



I removed the plastic filler panel just behind the front flare, held up the LJ rocker and marked the rocker for the cut...



I then place them on a jack for support to find out that the body mounting holes on the rockers lined up with octagonal holes under the body!!! WOOHOO!!!



I got the proper size drill bit and drilled out the octagonal holes under the body to accept 3/8x16 nutserts. This is where the rockers bolt to the underside of the body.

I then installed the rockers to find the placement of the 5 holes and marked them on the sides.. removed the rockers and drilled them out for 1/4x20 nutserts. I used touch-up paint on the bare metal on the holes to prevent rust prior to installing the nutserts. (the original nutserts I left alone... no need to remove them)



Here is a pic of all the nutserts in place




After I cleaned them up, I shot them with several coats of Plast-Dip ( I love that stuff)

Here is the rocker installed...

Looks great, I have 2 questions though, where did you get the hardware and did you put a rubber spacer in

I got the rubber insulators with the rockers... YES... I would use them to keep it all clean between the rocker and body....

I used large flange 3/8 x 16 and 1/4 x 20 nutserts from Kimball Midwest with a nutsert tool. You can make your own tool pretty easy... there are links on google for it.
