muffler

What would cause a muffler of only 2 years to split open from the top like this.

Probably from internal corrosion which is fairly common with steel mufflers. Stainless steel and aluminum mufflers last a lot longer.

Once a split starts, it gets worse as the the muffer vibrates back and forth....similar to how you can break a steel wire by bending it back and forth.
