My (almost mine) 2000 Wrangler Tire Questions

Im buying a 2000 TJ next week. 101,000K $6000. I cant wait. I had some tire questions. I was thinking of getting 31X11.5X15 Super Swampers. Im going to be driving about 60mi a day. Some told me' "Interco had yet to master the art of making a round tire." Will I be unhappy with these tires going 60mi a day? I dont really care to much about road noise but excessive vibration would be a bad thing. I want the most aggressive off road tire i can find that wont kill me on the street. I was also wondering if the 31X11.5 is going to rub. Here is a photo I took of it today.[IMG]

Your link doesn't work. Are these going on stock rims? 11.5 might be to wide. 10.5 should be fine though.

Here is his Jeep.

I don't think your going to get an 11.5" tire on them stock canyon rims without rubbing. 31 X 10.5 is about your limit.

As far as the interco, I say stay away from them for a daily driver. A good siped mud tire would be you best choice considering what your looking for.
I would suggest

Cooper STT
Mickey Thompson MTZ
Toyo Open Country MT

Any of the three will both balance better and perform better on the road then an interco.

Well I'm not near the enemy of Interco as Scoob is but I will say that an Interco tire and 60 miles per day doesn't sound like a good combination to me. I would try one of the Toyo tires if I were in your situation.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE them. I think they make some of the best off road tires. On a trailer queen it would be my tire of choice. But going down the highway they are not so good, to say the least.

I can't argue with that.

60 miles a day is going to cut down the life of the tire though. But if he wants a mud tire i would probably try either the Firestone Destination M/T
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....tination+M%2FT
or the Goodyear Wrangler MT/R
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....rangler+MT%2FR

I have had Mud tires on other 4x4s before and they sure were noisy on the highway. They wore kinda fast too. But everyone has there needs and use there equipment for different stuff.

The Cooper SST's have a good price. How do they compare to the BFG's?

They get a little squirrelly on a wet or snow covered road. The good thing is they last a long time, which can also be a bad thing when you want to them to wear out so you can get a set of better handling road tires
A siped Mud tire wil do much better on the road in the rain and snow

Like the Cooper STT

Mickey Thompson MTZ

Toyo Open Country's

I appreciate the help. I might go with the coopers. The price of the Toyos and the Mickeys is a little out of my range.

if the TJ that you´ll buy is stock and not lifted, here´s another plan.

buy a 2" budget boost lift (200-250$) and some 32" or 33" tires. that would look more grown-up than the 31s.

2" budget boost and 32" tires: http://runicon.de/viewer.php?albid=4...e=3&imgid=3597

if you don´t have the money for a 2" lift and tires, 32s will fit (on road only) until you can afford the 2" lift.
32s on a stock TJ: http://runicon.de/viewer.php?albid=4...e=3&imgid=3534

nicolas i thought about doing just that. The money just isnt there right now. Im planning on possibly putting that budget boost on later with the 31's. Once the 31" wear out im buying now im planning on buying a 4" 0r 6" lift and 33" or 35"tires. Buying the jeep is going to put me out for a while.

another idea:

buy the jeep and save some more money. then buy some 33s, a 2" BB and a 1.25" BL/MML.

the tires will need years to wear out.

That's a good looking little Jeep. It will look sharp with some 31" Cooper STT's on it. Especially with Canyon rims, IMO the best looking factory rim.

I have 41K on my MTZ's. The STT's are said to last just as long. So you might have them for a while, or at least until you upgrade to 33's

I am really happy with my pro comp x terrains. They do great on road and have a nice looking tread pattern.
