My future with Jeep

I am in a dilemma. I am set to deploy soon. the thing is my wife wants me to get a new jeep when i get home. I want to put a little cash into my jeep and drive it till it dies(again). She likes my buddies 13 Rubican JK. It is sweet. But my TJ is a true VET. It has gone through 5 soldiers and now is with me. It is a little tired. sitting on 205xxx miles. Its my DD and weekend warrior. Anyways, she hates the TJ cause of the mods i have currenlty done-ammo cans on exterior and interior, zombie responce vehicle. So the question i am having a hard time ending is....do i get a newer jeep, that would be great and she would ride in the jeep with me. OR do i upgrade my baby and drive her through hell again....any input would be appriciated...Thanks....

Upgrade and drive through hell again, aint the wifes jeep its yours. (Eventhough she may feel the same way lol). You could upgrade to an LJ if you really like TJs too.

Well, an option that I am considering will probably do once the JK Diesels come out, I will get one and it will allow me time to tear in to my TJ for a V8 conversion.

Its probably easier to break in a new wife than break in a new jeep.

Its all about compromise..I wanted a TJ when we got back to the USA, but my wife wanted me to buy a new JKU. I got the JKU, but got the JKURX and enough to do a good number of mods

It sounds like you love your TJ, but you still have to keep the wife happy! Keep the TJ and tell your wife you'll get her a shiny, NEW Rubicon when it comes out. She's a woman and she'll probably change her mind by then. SCORE! you bought yourself a few more years with the TJ.

I'm usually a "happy wife, happy life" subscriber, though my wife has been pretty good about giving me leeway with the TJ.

If you're going to constantly hear about it if you put cash into it and it breaks down later, I'd go for the JKR. One thing, though, if you DO go that route, pass it along to a fellow vet to "keep it in the family" ...

First off, thank you for your service! As for your issue... Would YOU getting HER a new JK be an option? That would give you, as a team, a great combo, with both getting what you want.

[edit] I see my reply took too long... Glad it seems to be a frequent suggestion! :-)

They are totally different animals. Right now you don't hesitate to pound on your current rig. You use it for what it was designed for. Once you drop big coin on a late model rubicon, you'll have a different attitude about how you use it because of how much you paid for it. I'm not advocating one position or the other it's just a reality.

Mike thats the issue, shes says get whatever jeep you want, just cant go offroad. I reply with thats about as stupid as having sex to regain your virginity. her responce well you are not getting a brand new jeep and think you are going offroad in it. so that kind of sealed the deal for me. Buy a new or any jeep and not go off road. might as well car at that point. being a diesel mechanic in the army i cant leave things alone.

She isnt a material girl...she doesnt really buy any shoes...She is just the kind of woman that thinks...why change it from the factory, it was designed that way for a reason. my response is yes but the factory builds for the masses and money, i build for function and off road use.

If it helps, my current TJ i got in trade. When i came home from the first deployment she got me a Jeep sort of. I came home to a god this hurts to say, but a Liberty...(threw up in my mouth there) so i found someone who wanted the thing and they traded their TJ for it. I was a happy camper. now i am undecided what to do next.

I retract my comment above ... you got bigger issues than the "see? You fixed it only so it broke again when you could've used that towards a new one" argument I thought you were having.

Given that a new one = no tweaking and no offroading, keep the TJ and find a way to make peace with her.

I know this sounds weird but any chance this is more of a jealousy issue? I.e. jealous you spend more time with the TJ - either fixing or offroading - than with her (perception on her part)? Not trying to get in your business, just trying to help.

It sure seems like keeping the TJ would be the best choice for you. Would it be possible to change the look of it, maybe lose the Zombie Response and ammo can look, while still leaving it just as functional as it is now? Maybe some small changes in it would help her to like it better while still leaving you with a tough vehicle that you don't mind getting dirty or scratched off-road. As others have already said, thanks for your service!

Man, I'd be pissed off if my wife were trying to force me into doing something I don't want to do. Get a JKU and keep your TJ. But there's no point in getting a JKU if you're not going to off road it. If she wants you to get rid of your TJ and then get a Jeep that you're not allowed to mod or take off road, she's effectively taking away something you love to do just because she doesn't like it. My wife isn't as crazy about Jeeps as I am. She could care less. But she sure as hell doesn't tell me that I can't have one or make mods to it within reason. Just like I don't tell her what she can and can't do. She knows that's what I like and doesn't try to get in the way or force me to get rid of it. I've been in the Air Force for almost 17 years and have been on a lot of deployments. We deserve to have something in our life that we like to do and something to look forward to. If your wife is trying to take that away from you, it will only end up in resentment. I've been married for over 16 years now too. Mutual respect goes a long ways in having a successful marriage. So does understanding. My wife likes to read shitty romance novels and she likes plants and shit. I don't understand it at all or like it personally. But I'd never tell her she couldn't do it.

Doesn't sound like you need to make a decision today & you'll have plenty of time to ponder. Make that call when you get home. Godspeed.

Just tell her the Jeep is yours and whatever she wants to drive is hers. A marriage is about an equal partnership right? Unless your spending the rent money on Jeep parts I don't see the problem. Plus I'm assuming the TJ is paid for. One less bill while your deployed. Thanks for your service and may god watch over you and bring you home safe while your fighting for our country.

You could try the overseas Jeep sales for deployed folks, I bought my Harley that way. They tend to have good deals (now that the '15s are coming out) but no trade-ins....

Anyway, make sure you talk this over with your wife. If you are getting ready to deploy, you both have much more important things to keep your minds focused on. Best of luck brother!
